A spend a little bit of my EV time going through the RC in hopes of maybe finding something (which nowadays is not much). Saw a Mare and Gelding that had been bred recently and dumped in the RC together...which I just don't get.

I guess I don't have any strong feelings on the matter? For all we know it was an experimenr gone awry. Then again, I'm big on throwing horses that don't make the cut onto my Riding School account (seriously, even on trail riding 40k of earnings plus the value of all the treats per horse is amazing). BUT I figure if it's from their own lines, whatever. If they paid to breed to an outside stud or used an outaide broodmare, only to throw the horse in the RC/let the foal die... that can be rude to the owner of the horse you used (this is probably one of the reasons some studs are private - not just to suss out the mare but also the player?). Plus, why spend the money? Might as well let the horse make some of it back and/or net a profit yanno?

I don't care much for the RC, it bothers me more when quality horses (usually second/third generation with extremely rare/uncommon pedigrees) I've bred get overbred with a million foals and then dumped in the RC- or worse, dumped back on me without my permission. :/

I won't throw horses I've worked so hard on in the rc. I'll geld the boys and move the horses that don't meet up to my own personal standards into my purge barn and let them be deleted after 5 days.

@Ducky: Yep, just last week while I was away and locked up. Had 7 horses transferred to me, three of which I had bred and sold as foals. I'm trying to get rid of horses, not randomly get more. x-x

It could be that someone simply didn't have room to keep all their horses, and had to clear them out. It can get expensive to expand your capacity, and it is very time-consuming to take care of a lot of horses. Maybe they were making room for a bunch of new foals that were more suited to their goals, or perhaps making room for a new breed.

@Maple - I completely understand the gelding situation. I've started rescuing geldings because I feel they deserve a chance at pixel pony life and have found many horses that were only second or third generation horses with beautiful pedigrees and nice stats who have been gelded for...no reason really.

I have dropped lined, gelded horses in the RC before because they weren't my lines, and for whatever reason I've decided they no longer fit my goals--so I too need to sell them, and for whatever reason they aren't moving. I'd rather geld a decent horse and give someone a chance for a decent show/riding school prospect than drop a stud in the RC and risk someone picking him up and ruining another player's lines when *I* had taken on the responsibility of the horse to begin with.

I am keeping my lines (started with foundies) private until 8 generations. If I buy any "outside" lines, that line will be public, as I didn't breed the horse. I have seen some decent young horses in the rescue center but they're never the breed I need.

I agree with you, Raptor; not all of them adopt just to sell. A number DO put some work into them first, and target new players for reasonably priced sales when the horses reach whatever stat goal--which is great. But I feel like I've seen more rescues that pick up the good stock, then put them immediately up for sale. They might still train them and such, but not with any goals; just as a way to make money until someone buys them.
