I just don't get it...

Raptorfang - maybe they "bit themselves in the butt," but I can also see why someone would breed a horse, and then decide not to keep either the parents or the foal. Maybe between that breeding and the birth of the foal, they changed their mind about their goals. Maybe they decided to pursue a different specialty. Maybe a different color goal. Maybe a different breed, altogether. Maybe they learned something about the game that changed their mind about whether that was a good match (like figuring out that breeding two horses of different specialties produces poor show horses.)

As much as we may like to, we can't always keep every horse with potential. Maybe it would have been a good foal, but maybe they had better ones. Maybe they were running out of room in their stables. Maybe their schedule changed in real life, and they no longer have time to deal with such a large herd, and had to pare it down to something more manageable.

Right now, I'm on the verge of making some very important decisions about the direction of my herd, and how best to manage it. The more horses you get, the more expensive it is to expand your ranch. Right now, it's going to cost me almost $100k to buy space for 5 more horses. Pretty soon, I'm not going to be able to afford to expand anymore. How am I going to best use the space I have? The time may come when I may need to drastically reduce my numbers. That may mean ridding myself of horses that I have already bred. Ideally, I sell my culls, but my main herd is Chincoteagues, and they don't sell quickly. If I wanted to make a clean break of things, the Rescue Center would certainly be an option. It's not one I think I would personally choose, but an option with many benefits, nonetheless.

Difficult decisions aren't always wrong decisions.

@wey - I saw those Welshes in there and wanted to cry, lol. Had they been anything but geldings I would have grabbed them all. I suppose whoever put them there like that had a reason, but still... :P Oh well, at least they have a home now.

I honestly don't understand "rescue" accounts. The RC IS the "rescue" account, and sometimes horses get dumped for a reason. It's okay to 'let them go'. Really. lol

YES i did to Rising Dawn it made me so sad there was a 0 year old gelding what is the point in that if you did not want to breed him then just put him in the rc so someone else can come and pick him up so they can breed him

@Rising Dawn - They made me cry when I saw them for sale XD They are some really, REALLY nice horses. With the whole rescue account thing - I like the idea of it, but I don't see the point in adopting horses out of the RC, and then immediately putting them back up for sale. The only positive thing I see with that, is that there'll be one more horse that doesn't get deleted that may turn out to be a nice horse for someone. However, the people who run 'rescue' accounts that adopt RC horses, treat/train them and THEN resell them for low prices are doing something rather worthwhile.

well i see it this way i had made a rule that i was going to wait ten days to put them up for adoption but to get my rescue going i thought that for right know i would but them up for adoption and lower the price to $100 which the were really $200 each

@Starfish - I completely understand your way of doing things, and I'm not going to tell you that you have to do things differently, however, I try to wait until horses I plan on 'rescuing' and rehoming have gained at least 100 stats from when I first got them. This way, I've actually made some progress with these horses, and they weren't just some horses I pulled out of the rescue center to sell right back.

i dump horses in the RC all the time for a variety of reasons.

if i've been trying to sell them for over a month, a 300 stat second gen foal is just as likely to go to the RC as a 4 year old foundation. to me it's just a way to get rid of horses i don't want. someone might adopt them or they might not, but once they're out of my barn i don't really care :)

I saw a bunch of brand new foals who had been gelded in the RC and that just blew my mind. It's one thing to geld an older horse who has already been bred but to ruin a brand new foal for any potential adopter made no sense to me. I also didn't understand spending the money to geld the foal and then putting it in the RC which you get no financial return from.

I have a rescue I started on the old EV. I started it to take in senior horses that other players didn't want to send to the RC. The only horses I took from the RC were 19+ & had been bred so that there wouldn't be gaps in lines. Since the recode I've had people ask me to take younger horses that they could no longer afford. When a horse comes to my rescue it is "retired". I never breed nor resell my rescues. I do tell the previous owners that I may show or enroll them in Riding Schools to help defer the cost of keeping them until they pass on, but they've had been fine with that.

Mmmmm gelding a foal that's been recently produced and dropped in the RC can make a lot of sense. This can be a very effective a way for a breeder to ensure that his/her lines remain at the availability/level of exclusivity they prefer, decreases the likelihood of their lines becoming overbred by other members, and frees up valuable stable space.

None of the gelded foals I saw had been bred. They were all 0 year old, never bred & gelded.

@Valzed- I think Ducky means recently bred as in born :)
Were they foundation foals? If so, that's odd...
