Torpid Void

Harper
Harper shook her head. "I think he just realized something- I'm not sure what. But it broke him, and he got drunk a couple of times, then just sort of left for like a month to get himself back together. He's fine now though."

Louis
He finally woke up. After a moment of disorientation - where was he? why was he there? what happened? - he recalled what all had happened and sat up in the bed with a sigh. Looks like I'm stuck here, then. His head was still throbbing, but only in the background, so it didn't bother him as much now that he'd gotten some sleep and a bunch of water. 

Mason
 Mason returned his gaze to the horizon so that he didn't have to be met with the little girl's all-too-familiar eyes anymore. He blinked a few times, fighting back the odd fog that was beginning to cloud his vision - not tears, but something else that he still couldn't quite place. He moved on, didn't he? That's what happened. They're sad for a while - as I'd hope - and then, slowly, they move on and forget about me. And I'm happy, really. Happy for all of them. I'm not worth being hung up on for the rest of one's life. But it sure hurts to witness them finally give up on me. Tentatively, reluctantly, he glanced back down at Auberon's daughter, smiling faintly. "Next time you see him, tell him his old friend Mason's happy for him, yeah?"

Harper
Harper had been staring at Mason for a while, mentally trying to figure out who he was and why he was so intrigued with her dad. When he requested she say that, she just sort of nodded quietly.

Mason
 "And that I miss him a lot, and I'm sorry. All that good stuff," he added, taking a moment to smoke before speaking again. "You're his daughter, right? What's your name?"

Harper
"Nah, you've been talking to someone who's completely clueless as to who Auberon is," Harper replied, rolling her eyes slightly. "Yeah, I'm his daughter. I'm Harper."

Mason
 Mason's mouth twitched into a small smirk. "You really are Kahlen's kid." He reached out and ruffled her hair, which didn't have much of an effect due to the fact that it was in a ponytail, but the point of the gesture wasn't exactly to mess up a little girl's hair anyway.

Harper

"So I've been told." Harper pulled away from Mase, swatting at his hand slightly, though most of it was playfully (amazingly enough). "The neighbors always complain about that. And honestly, so does my dad but-" she shrugged, "-I don't really care."

Mason
 To that, he laughed softly. "Oh, I imagine so. Back in the day, I used to call your mom Princess pretty much whenever I saw her. She always got so mad. It was the funniest thing."

Harper
"....you better not call me any nicknames or I'll smack you," she muttered.

Mason
 "You got it, Sunshine."

Harper
Harper pulled slightly on the chain, muttering a few more curse words in French when it wouldn't budge. "I deeply hate you."

Mason
 His smirk grew larger and more genuine. "Good ole Princess taught you how to swear, eh? That shouldn't surprise me as much as it does. Looks like my work is already done for me, then."

Harper
Harper shook her head. "Not until you get me out of this chain."

Ace
Ace was disturbed by someone knocking on the door, and got up slowly to go answer it. He opened the door and immediately felt his heart start racing when he came face to face with one of the authorities. Ace smiled at the man, his face otherwise emotionless. They started up a conversation, specifically one about Louis, which Ace was hoping would only take a few minutes at most.

Louis
He heard a knock and stood. By the time he made it out to the area, Ace had already engaged the authority. Normally Louis would probably have gone over but decided he shouldn't possibly get Ace in trouble. He leaned on the wall between the hall and the room with the entrance and looked on passively, though he couldn't hear what was being said.
