Torpid Void

Ace
"It's not that hard," Ace said, glancing out fhe kitchen window.

Louis
"If you say so." Louis was probably drinking too fast, but he was thirsty. He finished the water he had gotten and filled it again, this time forcing himself to sip slowly at it.

Ace
"I'm just trying to help," Ace muttered, turning around and heading back to his room.

Louis
"Never said you weren't. Hold up." Louis set the glass down and followed Ace, leaning on the room's doorway again. "What's up? Something's wrong."

Ace
"Nothing's wrong?" Ace gave Louis a confused look, sitting down on his bed again.

Louis
"Something is. I'm pretty sure you've got something going on, and that response was kind of telling. You can't say 'nothing's wrong' when there obviously is so much. This place, the fact people get stuck here and aren't able to return to their families. The fact that you got sent to what's practically a prison just because they don't like you. Et cetera." 

Ace
Ace shrugged. "It seems weird to you, but I was born here. It's all natural to me- there's no reason I should be bothered by it as much as you are."

Louis
He gaped at him a moment before he fully processed that. "You were born here?" Now I'm sad. "So, is something bugging you or are you always like this?"

Ace
"Yes, I was born here." Ace starting playing with his work again. "Both of my parents got stuck here from reality, had me, then when I was ten they found a way out and left. I can't leave- I don't logically exist, I guess you could say. And uh... I really don't know. I've never had any friends to tell me what I am or not like."

Louis
And now I'm even more sad. "Huh. You just seem preoccupied with something else that's on your mind that's bothering you." Louis shrugged. 

Ace
"Probably just me overthinking myself. I wouldn't worry too much about it." Ace looked back up at Louis. "Do you need anything else?"

Louis
"Do you have an extra bedroom?" 

Ace
He nodded. "It's down the hall a little ways on the left. The bathroom is right across from it."

Louis
"Thanks." He left Ace, wandering down the hall until he found the other bedroom. He opened the door and stepped inside. Immediately he went for the bed, practically collapsing onto it. He stared at the ceiling a moment, then closed his eyes. Maybe I'll wake up in my apartment, and this will all have been a dream.

"... Am I supposed to?" Rowan asked, confused.
