Consistently losing money

#7493 Posted on 2016-02-21 20:09:20

I do try the fountain every day as well... I forgot to add that in. I will try not showing for a few days and see if I can make up the difference.

I am losing money also and can't seem to make it back. I even make art and sell it, but even art doesn't seem to be selling as well.

I understand that the "economy" on here is a bit down in the dumps, but it's really hurting my herd. I'm trying to avoid completely running out of money by not buying art or upgrading tack but my bank still says this;

Expenditure; $1,731,609
Income; $1,362,037
Profit; $-369,572

I'm very careful with my money and I'm trying to not spend any except on feed/shows but I'm still in the hole. There doesn't seem to be a way to make money except for art - and that's not even selling now.. I can't spend the $100,000+ to upgrade tack to do better in shows because even then I'll be deeper in the hole and not be able to make it back. I play the games but I end up losing more than I came in with.. Interest hasn't been working for me and even then I get $3,000 at the most.

Thinking of locking my account and coming back when things are smoothed out.

I do agree with Komorebi, art is really the only way to be making a reliable income right now, and even then, not much is selling.

I've had good luck with shows today, by biting the bullet and spending three hours picking what shows which of my horses entered in... But with the amount of adults I have I'm not gonna keep doing that. I just don't have the time.

Still only made maybe 5k today from games, which is phenomenal for my luck.

Art isn't selling because nobody has no money. xD
either that or people with money just aren't convinced enough by the piece to actually buy it .___.

Tbh, I saved up (if you look at how much I have, you'll laugh...) before the recode, so all's good in my world. I really don't do all the making shows and selling art stuff, so I can't say I actually agree. But, I have noticed that everyone isn't buying art or commenting much as of now. I for one can't buy jack because half (well actually all) the stuff is in the over 18 section.

Is it just me or did today's shows go alot better with stats and earnings?

Maybr it's bc I entered half expensive and half highest entries. Or maybe Abbey did some tweeking of codes.

And my spend/earn money is even on this account. (My other account I went overboard on buying horses.

Stats did do better. They stil stopped completely after a certain point. But not as bad as before.

And there's no art section in over 18 forums. (and it's actually not any more active than the other forum areas)

i'm not sure how/why everyone else is losing money on shows. yesterday i spent $1800 on show fees and got $3923 back (a gain of $2123). the day before i spent $2100 on show fees and won $5142 (a gain of $3042). i only ever use auto show set to select the cheapest shows and i don't think i've ever lost money on shows.

Just to clear up the confusion above^^
Those who are under 13 can't see the whole forum. The art community looks like this for them, vs for the rest of us.

The 18+ section only has 2 topics, General Discussion and Rants.

I've been making back at least twice as much as I spend on Show entries, I enter the Studs Division and the first half of my Arabians Division(sometimes all of it) in the Lowest entry shows(which they mostly win because there seems to be less horses, sometimes only one or two). The rest I usually just enter in the cheapest shows. I think I'm going to try more of my regular lines in the Lowest entries and leave the random horses for cheapest to see if it evens more or gets worse.
Admittedly all my horses are fully equipped with Level 5 Tack because I went overboard on the buying, and I treat with bag treats every day. But it's a one time expense of 6740 and the minimal cost of repairing which I haven't yet figured out exact costs for, but I just repaired all my tack on about 100 horses and it was only 3876 or something. I think it's worth it to buy and upgrade tack for at least your best horses, buying from players or finding it in the junk yard and trading for what you want can help.

I make money on the fountain, Higher or Lower and Coin Toss every day. Coin Toss makes its money back if you get 3 or more correct.
I make a good chunk from studs and could make more with open lines. I also sold two no Breeds for 75k and 150k respectively. That all comes from being more established though, if you're starting out it's harder to sell and offer studs, but being open to buying from other players and looking for deals pays off!

The reason I'm still in the red overall(850k currently, but it was 1.2 million a few days ago) is because of the expansions I've made and buying more horses and upgrading tack. I'm confident I'll be alright just off horse money though. I've been investing more and more in horses. I do believe it'd be harder to start out if I didn't have the investment capital, but it just takes starting much smaller and being really patient, which I know I'm not xD

I know some of this has already been commented, but you always get your daily allowance, there's the fountain, and you can sell treats and tack that you aren't using. For example, I find cheap tack at the item market for about 1-10 dollars, buy all of it, and then resell it for a higher price.

Fountain is doing a lot for me, earning about 3k each day from that alone is enough to get my horses showed. And anything else is positive stuff, like show results, higher lower, bank interest (earning a lot since I got all the money from the past on my bank account, about 950k)
