What about if people try stealing/copying each others brands?

I think it'd probably be a one-and-done system. No repeats.

I support:
A registered, player specific, onetime only, optional, brand that links back to the stable of origin.

EDIT: As usual, I'm late to the party, lol. I didn't even see there were multiple pages to this topic (duh). But, I'll let my post stand anyway, as it's somewhat in-line with what Abbey had to say.

---

I played a different horse SIM for a very long time that allowed for 'branding' and could be used as either a prefix or suffix. Once added it could not be removed, however it did allow for buyers of unnamed horses to put their brand on the horse rather than that of the person who bred it (which I did not care for). Brands were limited in characters (three, I think, or possibly only two - I really can't quite remember) or you could use a symbol. Were this sort of thing to be added (which I think is a great idea), it should be ONE per account (regardless of breed, you're still the same person who bred the horse, so there is zero reason to have multiple brands), permanent once chosen (changeable for EVC), optional for use for those who don't care for brands, and only allowed to be placed on the horse by the breeder. I also believe three characters is more than enough (i.e. say you are 'blue flower stables', your brand is then 'BFS').

The other thing though, with the game I'm referring to above, is that horse names were permanent once assigned. THAT is something I'd really like to see, ESPECIALLY if branding were to be implemented (or even if it isn't).

I would hate if names were permanent once assigned, what if you got a horse named Lord of the Farts and you couldn't change it? I personally wouldn't buy that horse and then Lord of the Farts would be very sad :(

Yeah, that would be bad... and terribly annoying... and sadly hilarious XD
I probably wouldn't get a prefix, as I have already put a brand in my horses' names. Plus, they would probably be too long.

Zest, we I believe ment that you can't change the BRAND once it was added.
And I don't support having to pay to change it. I think it shouldn't be changeable at all. Nor do I support it having to be one brand per person. I stand by one brand per divisions. Or even a large brand for an account, then semi-brand/sub-brands for divisions.

No, seems she was saying the name "The other thing though, with the game I'm referring to above, is that horse names were permanent once assigned."

As I once again refer to Lord of the Farts

Oh, I didn't read it that way. I am against that, as if this so being realistic, you can have a horse's name changed irl.

My thought is that I wouldn't really use this option. If I wanted my prefix to be a symbol, for example, my division would have to be named that, and then the division wouldn't really make sense for me :/ A lot of peoples divisions have quite long names too, which mightn't look quite right in front of a horses name.
Plus, I know its sad, but if a horse has a permanent brand that kinda puts me off buying it. I don't really know why ^-^'
Sowwee ;-;

I don't like it but I could live with it if it was formatted like Abbey's Example. XD It wouldn't be as bad of an eye sore for me and I think that's a good compromise for both parties. (Though really loving a toggle switch if ever possible. lolz)

~~Though to the permanent names thing, I don't support. You should be able to change names, just not the brand. I dislike a lot of registry names that make them sound like magical unicorns or there just something ridiculous . xD Like if my horse was named Bob and they named the show name "princess sunshine of the fairies". Bob would be very upset to be called princess and wouldn't be able to change it. XD So no support on permanent magical unicorn names.

~~I also don't support adding brands to the horse's images. I don't want a pink flower sitting on it's butt when it could just be a good looking solid colored black TB. I like patterns but I like TB's solid coats. At the most socks and blazes can be awesome. Its got beauty in it's simplicity. Plus, if you have multiple breeds you'd had to have multiple brands in essence because you'd have to place them in different spots because the horse's position.

^^^Though this changes if it's sitting on the edge of the image. I could compromise it being a type of watermark type thing on the edge of the image. If it's a watermark on the edge of the image, You wouldn't have to have different ones. You could use the same one for each breed image and wouldn't need to worry about switching them around for different horses.

The other way I'd accept them is if they were realistic and natural looking. No outrageous colors, it be white / grey fur like real fire and ice branding results. They could do symbols and letters and etc. xD But I doubt many would be able to make it look natural. But that's just me. XD (Be nice to choose where its located. Shoulder / rump.) Something about a natural brand is more calming then pink flowers. xD

Though, seeing in the horse profiles, that a thing for importing your own images for your horses is a thing for the future? You can tag their butts and shoulders that way all you want. xD Though if I find one/buy it, I'm going to revert it back to it's original image. xD

Who even said about branding them on the horses .-. that would be awful. and a lot of work.

I think if we could register a brand or two and not have it associated with divisions but choose which horses we want it on, it would be awesome. In Abbey's posted format.

I don't like the concept of permanent brands. The current system that shows "bred by" on the horse's page, and allows people to name the horse anything they like, with or without a brand if they choose, seems adequate to me. I feel this meets the needs of the breeder having a permanent mark linked to them on the horse, and the owner being able to add a mark to the horse if they want. If you never sell the horse the question of whether the brand is permanent becomes moot, and if you do, then you're either the breeder, in which case you already have something on the horse, or you're just one of its owners, in which case is it really fair for that horse to have your brand for it's whole life?
