Mason
"Heh. You're tellin' me," Mase replied, smirking ever so slightly, though the expression was as humorless as Em's laugh had been. He took a quick sip of his soda before taking another bite of his hotdog, absentmindedly staring up into the large branches of the oak as he ate. This thing's probably as old as I am. Huh.

Em reverted to people-watching, just quietly observing the crowds as she thought. She wasn't really thinking about the people she saw, though at the back of her mind she was sifting the faces and making sure Liam hadn't followed them. After a little while she finished her pretzel, putting the little plastic cup onto the paper tray the pretzel had been sitting on.

Once he'd finished eating, he took to tapping his fingers on the wooden table subconsciously, trying to come up with something to talk about. 'What's your favorite animal?' No, too simple. "What are your thoughts on death? Like, under what circumstances would you be okay or content with dying?" Perfect.

It took her a few moments to come up with a response. "I'd like to die of old age because it's - I don't know - I'd have gotten to live out my life, I guess." Em paused, then continued after giving it a little bit more thought. "If I had to die young I'd rather get sick or something. I want a chance to say goodbye, you know?"

Mason
He laughed faintly, bitterly; it was impossible to tell if it was genuine or not, for even he wasn't entirely sure. "That's the absolute last way I wanna go," he remarked, "though I guess there's a bit of a lifespan gap between us, huh? So it - what you said - means something different for me. I think... I think I'd like to get stabbed or hit by a train or something. You know, something tragic so everyone will mourn me and talk about how much of a good person I was because I didn't live long enough to leave them like I've left everyone else before them," he finished, voice growing cruelly sarcastic, the snide and barely-hidden bitterness directed mostly at himself.

Em was flooded with uncertainty, his last statement echoing in her ears. She was reminded he would be leaving. She shouldn't allow herself to become friends with him, because why put herself through yet another person disappearing. Simultaneously, though, she felt it was almost unfair to him. And, besides - her phone trilled with a reminder. She jumped a little, grabbing it and turning it off to stop the sound. "I need to get going or I'll be late. Thanks for hanging out," she added with a smile as she stood. Em returned to the path, tossing her trash in a garbage can nearby. She turned and waved at Mason. "See you at school!" With that, she started down the walkway, trying to type the address into her phone (she didn't want to risk being late to the shoot) and not run into anyone else walking in the park.

Mason
He watched her leave without a word of his own, eyes following her until she was out of sight. When she was gone, Mason sighed and stood, throwing his trash away and starting towards home. His trek took him through a fair number of dark, creepy alleys, but it was familiar territory to him. He paused to pet a stray dog while traversing one of the alleys; it was a big black mutt with a scarred pelt but sad, lonely eyes. Mase stayed there with it for a few moments, feeling a bit of sympathy and kinship with the dog before he, too, left it on its own.
Finally, he reached the edge of the strip of city, where the alleyways opened up into an area with a couple of dilapidated gas stations, some out-of-commission stores, and an old motel. The motel was his destination; he climbed the fire escape stairs on the side of the building to reach the second floor where he called home. He was greeted by a woman with short dark hair upon reaching the top; she removed her cigarette from her mouth for a moment to inform him that one of the pipes had busted again, which he met with an unintelligible grumbled sentence. Mason entered his room, the one next to hers, tossing his bag down on a table with a heavy sigh. Home.

She arrived at the building her agency rented out with little to no problem. Inside it was already a bustle of activity. Em eyed the punch bowl and started for it, thirsty, when her makeup artist snagged her and led her to the little room where she would do her work. Em suppressed a sigh and settled into the chair. "What's today's shoot?" she asked. The older woman started putting products on Em's face as she answered. "Finishing up the last of the summer clothes line for the one store." "Still summer? They're running that campaign a little late." "That's what I thought too. Now stop talking or your makeup will be a mess."
Ten or twenty minutes later, Em had her makeup and hair both done and had changed into the first outfit of the day. She stopped by the punch and poured herself a small cup, shooting the camera guy who had brought it a compliment after taking a sip. It was really good. She didn't have much time to relish the drink before she had to go set up in front of the cameras and lights. They were running a bit rushed because the director's daughter had a piano recital and nobody wanted him to be late.
Ezhno
He slipped inside via a side door, using the key he'd stolen from his father ages ago. It made it easier to avoid his only family member when coming home. It was effective, and Ezhno was able to run up to his room before his father, sitting by the door and waiting to lecture him, could notice him. He locked the door (having switched the door handles around years ago, so instead of being locked in, he could lock his father out) and flopped onto his bed.

Kahlen
"Volleyball season starts soon," Kahlen mused to herself to break the silence. "Yay. Very excited," she said halfheartedly.

Auberon
"I'm assuming that means you're going to do it?" Auberon replied, his mind obviously distracted. "And I guess that means I should join the football team so that we can be that sterotypical cool couple in highschool. Oh wait, no that's cheerleading." A faint smile tugged at his lips, but his distant eyes made it look as if he wasn't really in the moment. "But you're a blonde cheerleader, so it works."

Auberon
Auberon was quiet for a moment, then he blinked, relieving the miles in his eyes and coming back to the now now. "So, I'm mildly curious," he thought out loud. "As to what will happen if I call you Care Bear. So, where are we going Care Bear?"
