Kahlen 
"I sure hope so," Aunt Claire chimed in as she cut out sugar cookies. "Yes and yes, but you're missing one. Technically two."

Auberon
"A tree and some cat," Auberon guessed. "That's an educated guess, if you couldn't tell."

Kahlen 
"Whoever told you that has you misinformed." Kahlen paused before continuing, "It's you, obviously."

Auberon
"Yes, I know. But I'm not arrogant enough to say it," Auberon smirked. 

Kahlen 
"Uh huh. Right. Anyway, I've been obsessively avoiding these people because they keep wanting to talk to us and ask how things have been and give us hardly mediocre chocolate chip cookies that are way too hard to eat without damaging something in your mouth. And reminisce about that one time I turned the sprinklers on their son, but that's slightly irrelevant."

Auberon
Auberon laughed slightly, though it was muffled in an attempt to seem surious. "How unfortunate. Maybe I should send them a recipe."

Kahlen 
"We've tried," Aunt Claire and Kahlen said in sync. "They have an inability to make cookies, I guess."

Auberon
"That actually hurts me mentally," Auberon mumbled, opening his eyes and spacing out.

Kahlen 
"It hurts to eat them, too. So we don't."

Auberon
"Then throw them at their windows." Auberon thought about that for a moment, then closed his eyes again. "If you haven't already done that I will be surprised."

Kahlen 
"You don't know how many times that has crossed my mind, along with turning the sprinklers on them again."

Auberon
"Hmm..." Auberon paused, almost falling asleep, and as a result, slipping his elbow from the couch and almost slamming his head against the back. He groaned and readjusted his elbow.

Kahlen 
Wordlessly, Kahlen reached over and handed him a pillow. Honestly I don't care if he falls asleep. I'm not sure when he last slept at all, so...

Auberon
Auberon studied the pillow habitually, then took it and looked at Kahlen as if expecting her to ask a question.

Kahlen 
Kahlen didn't need to look at the clock on the wall to know that Denver was on his way home. "What?"
