Bryan
Rustling in the brush to his left caught his attention; his head snapped sideways, his hand instinctively taking hold of his newfound gun. Bryan sat as still as a statue, his only movement coming from his subdued breaths. He heart pounded with fear and adrenaline in his chest. He wanted to believe that the noise could be blamed on an animal, or even another human, but something in the back of his mind was telling him otherwise. Suddenly, he jumped up, firing a shot into the bushes just as a figure began to emerge from them. The being collapsed to the ground, dead. Or, rather, deader. He turned and walked back over to the door of the cabin, glancing over his shoulder to make sure that no more zombies were coming before looking inside. "Hey, um, Jade? I just killed a man- Er, don't worry, he was dead. And is dead."

Ryan (wow I'm finally introducing him)
The bay mare staggered to a trot, her sweaty sides heaving. The man gently patted her neck, taking a deep breath of tired relief. He let go of the reins momentarily as he twisted around in the western saddle, which was large and bulky on the Arabian's small back, to readjust the bulging saddlebags, keeping a wary eye out for any unwanted pursuers as he did so. Thankfully for both man and beast, he didn't spot any. He turned back around, reclaiming the thin leather reins of the English snaffle bridle; the bridle didn't exactly match the rest of his mount's gear, but it had been the first headpiece he could get his hands on, so he'd taken it. As a matter of fact, all of his riding gear - including the horse he sat on - had been a matter of him taking the first things he found and bailing as quickly as possible. Luckily for him, the horse he'd chosen was both fast and durable despite her small stature, and was the only reason he'd been able to outrun many hordes of zombies throughout the past... He couldn't remember how long it'd been.
The pair reached the edge of a small, peaceful-looking town, though Ryan knew better than to have his steed take another step without halting her and looking around first, so he did just that. From a distance, the silhouette of a stout, rugged man with a rifle strapped across his back sitting alertly atop an equally-rugged horse would have been an imposing sight, but up close, sweat and dust caked both of their features, and nothing other than exhaustion and slight fear was evident in their sunken gazes. After several minutes, most of which had been spent allowing his mare to catch her breath, Ryan apprehensively kicked the horse into action. She plodded forward on weary, quivering legs, nostrils still flared and red after having to gallop away from a massive horde of zombies for a little less than an hour straight. After several more minutes of slow, silent traveling, they reached the end of the road, which met up with a stretch of woodland that looked to continue on for quite some time. Ryan took another deep breath, exhaling as he directed his mount into the woods.

Jade
She walked outside and eyed the zombie. "Good shot. Keep an eye out, there might be more." Jade took a small bit of the food and ate it, feeling a little hungry. I guess I'll just let Alex sleep more. She sat down next to the fire, laying her sword and sheathe beside her on the ground in easy reach.

Bryan
He nodded, sitting back down beside her, gaze shifting from the brush to the fire and back again. "I just- Whoa- I just shot somebody. That's... new. New? New. That's good. If it wasn't new, I'd be concerned." He paused, laughing slightly. "I just shot a zombie. What- What? I mean-," More strange laughter, "I can't- I'm just- Dude."

Ryan
The trip through the woods proved uneventful. That is, until a structure became visible through the trees ahead of them. Ryan debated approaching it; he decided that skirting around it would be the best course of action. He tugged on the reins, redirecting his mare so that she was no longer heading directly toward it. The closer they got to the mysterious building, the more visible it became. It was a fort, Ryan realized. A tree fort. I wonder if it's empty?, he pondered silently, squinting up at the open windows, which were barely visible through the wall of trees that he'd wisely positioned himself behind. Had they continued going straight toward the fort, they would've entered a small patch of clear land, which could have had deadly consequences had anyone noticed them from inside the structure. Someone could still see me now, if their eyesight was keen enough, he reminded himself, pulling his mare to a halt. I best pause and try to see if there's anyone inside. That is, unless they see me first.

Jade
She laughed, glancing over at the dead body. "It's weird, huh? I never expected to be stuck in a zombie apocalypse. Though honestly I'm not even surprised something like this had to happen on my vacation." I run from my problems and just get more.

"Yeah... How long do you think the horses have been alone? Since all this started?"

"Oh, okay. Not too long, then." Ahanu opened his eyes just briefly. The first thing he saw was a clock that still ticked away, running on batteries, albeit out of sync now. He closed his eyes again. "Is it just me or is it a little weird that we can just walk into people's homes and take what we need?"

"Not necessarily. The first round of people were unable to even try and defend themselves. And then those who didn't realize what was happening would have gone next. If they hadn't been unaware or if they hadn't been the first zombies, some of them would still be alive today."

If only every conversation didn't have his brain running commentary in the background. His mind hadn't always been so invasive and cruel, but ever since the zombie apocalypse had started, it had gotten worse. Of course, he'd always been a bit of an overthinker - it ran in the family - but watching his parents turn into monsters and then having to shoot them had really messed with him. He sighed, wondering what he would have to do to put an end to it and have his pre-apocalypse brain back.
