Auberon
"Ya, sure," Auberon mumbled, spinning his dagger on its hilt this time. "Try telling any 'normal'" (he made quotation marks with his fingers)"person that; they don't manage to think a guy baking is okay."

Aline
"There's lots of male bakers," Aline replied. "I started watching some cooking shows on TV and lots of the bakers there are men. Even some of the judges." She titled one shoulder up in a half-shrug (how she normally shrugged). "Maybe it's different where you came from, but I never found it odd to see guys baking." 

Auberon
"Thanks?" Auberon replied without looking at her. He never felt very comfortable talking about baking with anyone, even people who said it was okay.

Aline
"So, what's your favorite thing to bake? And what do you not like baking?" 

Auberon
Auberon rolled his eyes at himself and sighed. Good job kid, looks like you ain't getting out of this one anytime soon. 
"I don't know. I don't really have a particular favorite or least favorite thing. I just sorta- bake what comes to mind at the time. Sometimes I don't really know what it is until I'm finished..." he realized that probably sounded stupid and unrealistic, but it was accurate. How could he deny the truth?

Aline
"That's really cool! I have to follow a recipe when I bake, if I didn't it probably wouldn't turn out well," Aline said with a small laugh. 

Auberon
"Ya, I've heard that's how most people are," Auberon said with a smile. Her laugh is kinda cute... 

Aline 
"Do you like baking sweet or savory food? Pão de Queijo isn't sweet at all, but it tastes really good. I tend to stick to savory pastries. I found a whole bunch of new recipes when I moved to America, but I haven't gotten a chance to try them all yet." 

Auberon
"Like I said, it just depends," Auberon replied with a shrug. "I'm convinced I don't even decide what I'm going to make; someone decides it for me and then I just do it based off that." Sounds a lot like slavery to me.

Aline
Aline was intrigued. Even her baking friends in Brazil had preferences, and his method was very unique and new to her. "So when you bake you have no idea what it's going to turn out like?" 

Auberon
"No, not really," Auberon said as he spun his dagger again. "Sometimes I have a personal preference, but it's sorta either accepted or dismissed based off what I feel at the time," Auberon stopped and hesitated for a minute. "My aunt and uncle always said I inherited that from my mom; my dad didn't do stuff like that. Probably more "man-like". But I wouldn't know if that's true or not. But normally everthing turns out fine, and as I've been told it's some of the best food anyone's tasted- I highly doubt that's true," Auberon finshed with a smile.

Aline
"When we get out of here I'd love to try something you make, if you're okay with that?" Aline said, glancing at the floor. Am I blushing? Why am I blushing? I used to do this all the time with Alejandro and Maria... It must be new people, because I was like this with some of Alejandro's baking friends and when I first met Maria I was bit nervous to ask. 

Auberon
Auberon thought about it for a minute then shrugged. "I don't see the harm in it."

Aline
"Okay." Aline glanced at the door, but it seemed quiet on the other end. "How do you know when it's done baking? Do you set a timer or just watch it? And how do you know what texture it's supposed to be?"

Auberon
"I watch it," Auberon said. "Or I just have a timer in my head that screams at me when something's done. Even though I forgot about it..." Auberon stopped what he was saying and actually though about it. "I don't really know honestly."
