My Stupid Cat [whom I love]...

#171178 Posted on 2018-05-19 06:05:46

ate a rubber band last night. I know this because I found 1/2 of it in a little pile of cat vomit this morning. Its so frustrating because I actually had put that rubber band away the day before when I found her playing with it. I put it in a drawer on the night stand by my bed (she saw me put it there) and I must've not gotten the drawer completely shut because she managed to open it (if there is even a 1/4 of an inch of space she can open a drawer) and proceed to eat the darn thing.

Right now I'm waiting for her vet clinic to open so I can call and talk to them about this. I'm thinking they'll want to give her some ipecac to get whatever is in her stomach still out and then probably give her mineral oil to help move anything that went past her stomach out the other end.

It's just so frustrating to have such a smart cat who is also insanely curious and stubborn.

What crazy things have your pets done or eaten that required a talk with the vet?

Read Dewey the Libary Cat. The book talks about a real cat touched the lives of small town in United States and eventually the world.

Cats are nuts who don't know when to quit sometimes. My little darling cat while I was off finishing College decided to eat the tail off a Rooster beanie baby. It ended up lodged in his stomach/intestines and was an expensive vet visit my mother paid for for not catching it soon enough. He still chews on stuffies, but has learned his lesson about trying to swallow them thank goodness. He just tries to feed them now by putting them in his bowl and then chewing on them with his food.

Funnily enough the cat before that ate about half a spool of thread. That was a fun call.

Cats are nuts.

The vet tech I spoke with said since it's been a while since she ate it (and since she vomited already) there isn't much they can do except wait. I'm going to give her a little mineral oil just to help move things along. So this weekend is just me watching Sid and checking her fecal matter for remnants of rubber band. *so much fun*

So far she has been to the vet one other time (for atypical things) because she stopped eating for a few days and I got worried. Turns out she just got bored with the food I was feeding her and switching her food fixed the issue (but she got an x-ray that time because she has propensity to eat/chew on things the reason I made sure to put the rubber band away when I saw her with it yesterday)

I don't usually contact the vet until they stop eating for a few days or change their behavior. If i don't think they'll pass something I'll usually feed mineral oil and lock them up in a condo for a few days to watch intake/output, ect.

BUT.. My cats have eaten/stolen....

Wooden spoons,
rubber spatulas,
many many hair ties
my plants,
silicone oven mitts (multiple times if i forget to put them away) EVEN opening the drawer to get to them,
They're opened the crock pot and ate the grease,
Potato chips stolen out of my hand,
chocolate milk from my glass when i leave the room for a moment,
they stole a breakfast sandwich from my father in law when he was eating it,
pork chop bone from my hand,
the dogs food,
the rabbit's food,
broken into their treat container,
a glass of pepsi and Ice Cappuccino mixed that needed to get dumped and washed,
broken into a cabinet to steal a bowl of potato chips that was UNDER a plastic container of something else,
A bag of rolls on top of the fridge,
a bag of rice from the pantry where they opened the cabinet door,
stole a baby's bottle and chewed the nipple off to get to the left over milk,
multiple power cords for phones
stole and eaten multiple pacifiers from the kids
and many many more things i forget at the moment.

And no, they're not starving, they are fed twice a day every day, dry and wet. lol they're just trouble makers.

My cats like to steal pens and pencils.  Whenever I clean house I find them in all sorts of Nick's and cranies.

Sid "steals" her toys from her toy box and hides them from me all over the house, (which I don't mind as it gives her something to do), but it's funny because if I see her doing it she acts like she's been caught doing something she shouldn't. She also buries them in my dirty clothes hamper and under the covers of my bed. I find 1-4 cat toys in my bed every day.

She also takes clothes from one room of the house to another to "bury" things she thinks stink, like my work shoes or sweaty clothes that haven't be laundered yet.

Dearest Emrys steals my socks if I leave the drawer cracked open or leave them in the clean clothes basket too long. He also tries to feed socks like he would the stuffies, and helpfully waters them as well just in case they're thirsty by tossing them in the water bowl. Socks are very fun but for some reason his toys aren't good enough for stealing.

I hope none of Sid's toys are too pokey if you're often finding them in your bed though. There has been a few toys lost to the garbage can after stepping on them in the middle of the stairs for us.

Sid used to steal socks and chew on them. I think it was probably because she was teething at the time, so it stopped after she got older.

Sid's toys are mostly little balls with bells in them and these little stuffed toy mice that she LOVES she will even play fetch with them most of the time it's the stuffed mice that end up in my bed.

I've definitely thrown out toys that bothered me though. c:

Oh man I miss the bell balls, we don't buy them for my boy anymore though because he literally destroys them (that and the cutesy mice, they last about half and hour tops with all their pieces and stuffing intact). He's really rough on his toys so most of the stuff we have is small dog type toys rather than actual cat toys. We joke that he's actually part dog since he was raised with dogs for the first bit of his life. He's got no stealth, laps water like a dog instead of a cat and comes when he's called. He's gosh almost 5 now and never grew out of the sock chewing all the way though.

At least he's a good snuggler though. That and the cuteness makes up for all the annoyance... most of the time anyway xD

When Sid was young I bought her dog toys too because she would decimated the cat toys and I was afraid she'd eat the stuffing. When she was about one I bought her a bag of cat toys with balls and stuffed mice in it, those are the only toys I buy now (and Da Bird type chaser toys) they last about 2 months before the stuffing starts to peak out of random places and I toss them.

Definitely cat cuteness is worth most of the fun behaviors associated with their catness. ♥

We only have barn cats, but they get into the most weird things. They’ll eat my horse treats, try to eat the senior feed I have for one of my horses, nibble on my saddles (which is terribly annoying) and for some reason think my fingers are like the best things ever to chew on and will hold onto my hand with they’re claws when I try to take it away, haha. Cats eh? You gotta love em though, they’re so cute. XD

ahh I hope your kitty passes the rubber band! But it doesn't sound too serious if she already vomited some of it back up, so things should be okay! :)

My one cat is an angel when it comes to not taking things she's not allowed.. but my other cat on the other hand.. I made a Jake the dog plush that I keep on my sewing desk and he ALWAYS has to pull it down.. I have no idea why. I also have a plush horse magnet that he steals off of my white board on the same desk.. The worst he's done though is I had a bromeliad plant that had pups growing(newly growing baby plants) under the main plant. The main plant was dead so I pulled off most of the dead leaves so the plant could focus it's energy on the pups.. The next day I came home from work to what looked like a plant massacre.. dirt everywhere and bits and pieces of pups all on the floor. I was so angry at my cat hahah.. Now I know I can't have house plants cos the tard will just eat them x_x
Thankfully I've never had to take him to the vet for eating something he wasn't suppose to.. He's had a bladder infection though that he's had to go in for but that's it.

I Hope your cat will be okay.

I had a cat named Midnight and at 4:30 in the mourning, he managed to eat two of my mom's flexible headbands and when he jumped and laid on my bed. He threw them up and I had to get out of bed and clean it up. My Mom had to close her bedroom door. My current cat, Willow, tries to get in the attic because the door is in my mom's room and she has to keep her bedroom door closed.
