*"Pure" Crossbreeds

I know the suggestion has been brought up a few times before, but I wanted to get a gauge on how people really feel about this idea.

"Crossbreeding" alone tends to be extremely opposed for whatever reason, however I'd like to get a feel for your thoughts on "pure crossbreeding".

When we eventually get to the stage of adding more breeds, how would you feel about a system where you could crossbreed select breeds to make a "new" breed which is a legitimate breed in its own right?

For example;

Arabian x Thoroughbred = Anglo Arab

You would only be able to gain an Anglo Arab by crossbreeding Arabians and Thoroughbreds, they would not be available in the EC.

Anglo Arabs would be breedable with other Anglo Arabs, Arabians or Thoroughbreds.  They would produce Anglo Arabs with those 3 breeds.  I could try to figure out some way of showing the breed distribution, e.g. 75% Arabian 25% Thoroughbred.

Anyway, I know that crossbreeding is generally frowned on within the EV community but I wondered if this might change anyone's opinions :) let me know what your thoughts are.

i love the idea of crossbreeding and think it's an excellent idea.

the one argument against it that i always see is: "but the breed art cost is too high" so maybe seeing that you (Abbey) suggested this will help alleviate that worry :p

I support this Idea.

Neither for or against. It doesn't bother me one way or the other. (I haven't voted with the buttons above.) I would have no objection to others using my studs/broodmares to breed to horses of a different breed, but I would have no interest in doing the same myself.

I would be opposed to general crossbreeding though (i.e. the other kind, not the pure cross breeding you're proposing here).

What cross breeds would we be likely to get if this did happen?

I feel like this is very interesting and would add a whole new mechanic to the game. I really like this idea, it is a good compromise for those who are for and against cross breeding. If people don't want other breeds bred to their studs, the approval only thing is always there. It could potentially add more value to horses with "pure" pedigrees and finding out all the different combos would be a fun little challenge too.

@Kahzie - I think I've said before, with foal art: don't worry about the art cost being too high, or there being too much art. I am able to pace myself with commissioning art, there's no rush, and a visual feature such as foal art - or in this case, a new breed - can be delayed until the art is done. I want members just to focus on what features they want to see added, and let me worry about the coding or art :)

@UB - I would most likely start off with just one or two crossbreeds to see how easily they can be integrated, and I would probably start off with at least one of the Arabian cross breeds. As for a complete list of what you'd be likely to get.. unknown as of now, this is just an idea I've been thinking about for a while.

Love the idea (: Another horse sim I played awhile back was kindof like that with cross breeding and I enjoyed being able to cross breed, but limited to certain pairings. It added variety in a sense.

Also kindof hoping for Warlanders (FriesianxAndalusian) to be brought in.

@Abbey - you have said it before! :)

My thought process with support/not supporting suggestion has always been: "would i like this in the game or not?" but having followed almost all comments on all suggestions, it seems that sometimes voting is decided by: "is this something i like AND an easy thing to add to the game, or not?"

as an arabian breeder, i'd love for arab crosses to be one of the breeds. the thought of abstangs and all the gorgeous colors i could add to my herd is ♥

that said, would horses that were majority (like 75%+) one breed have the breed art of that breed? Or would it all be on the crossbreed art? I'm really a fan of the first option, and am picturing a pretty flaxen red roan splash on our current arabian art *hearteyes*

I don't quite understand this topic completely, are you suggesting that the members can't crossbred themselves but that crossbred breed is available? For example, when you go to the EC to create a horse, you could pick Anglo Arab horses?

Depending on the crosses introduced, I'd be all for playing around with crosses to create eventual "pure" lines. It would add another layer to the game play and breeding strategies.

I like this idea; however I would prefer that percentages didn't show at all and that they just had their own art.

So an Anglo Arab is just an Anglo Arab even if it is 90% Thoroughbred.

I would still have it show the Anglo Arab artwork even if the horse was 99% Thoroughbred to be honest - it saves updating the current breeds with the additional colours (which would be a nightmare, and is the reason I wouldn't want to show just Arabian or TB artwork with crossbreeds).

Support pure crossbreeds. Not sure if I would do them myself, I think it would depend a lot on which crossbreeds you added and the art/colour combinations for them.

I definitely support if Georgian Grandes (Friesian x Saddlebred), Morabs (Morgan x Arab) and National Show Horses (Arab x Saddlebred) would be a possibility. c:

(However if you added a Zorse as a sterile option I'm not gonna say no c; c; c;)
