Can some one please help me understand what NSS is and how you do it?

Anxiety at play for the week

I remember seeing a bunch of users talk about NSS and what it is, basically I think I remember it as Non-Specialized Stats or NSS for short, so the lower your horses stats I think it shows the better compared to others. As a few of my horses won a couple of gold trophies sometimes.

I could also be wrong, but that's I what remember it as.

this guide talks about NSS more thoroughly, i also made another guide that touches on the topic a little bit.

using one of my horses as an example:

this stallion specializes in Racing, so his Specialty Stats are Speed and Endurance. these are the primary stats that are weighted when he competes in Racing shows.

his other three stats are Strength, Agility, and Intelligence. these stats are not used for the Racing specialty, so these are his Non-Specialty Stats or NSS. she has 16 STR, 16 AGI, and 15 INT which totals to 47, meaning his NSS is 47.

the way the game weighs Specialty Stats and NSS is something like this
imagine there are two Driving horses that are both in the N2 grade and their stats are as follows:

Horse A
STR: 70
SPD: 20
AGI: 20
INT: 20
END: 70
ALL: 200

Horse B
STR: 75
SPD: 15
AGI: 20
INT: 15
END: 75
ALL: 200

as you can see, both horses have the exact same Total Stats. but if you add up Horse B's Specialty Stats, they are slightly higher than Horse A's Specialty Stats.

Horse A: STR 70 + END 70 = 140 Specialty Stats
Horse B: STR 75 + END 75 = 150 Specialty Stats

this means if entered into the same N2 show, Horse B is more likely to win because they have higher total Specialty Stats despite having the same amount of total stats. so in a sense, NSS "get in the way" of Specialty Stats by taking up space that could've gone to more Specialty Stats.

Forgotten land covered this topic great! NSS is the amount of stats that do not effect the stats chosen for the specialty, ( for example showjumping : speed and Agility are the specialty stats) the lower the NSS is , the better your horse will perform
. For an example, Belmar has done a great job breeding this low NSS horse : Gorgeous baby
