What happened to artist's selling their full art pieces for like, normal art prices? I've seen tags here for like 75-100k for bases people bought and colour..rip off.. or to buy extra shading on a tag..... on a 150x150 px tag.. honestly, boycott the spending extra for crap like that for a tag...
Honestly what the hell would my art even be worth because I work hard and produce a custom background as well as a custom character. I try to have decent prices but I feel like I'm just giving to the needy with these people and their huge price gap.
I support custom sales, those prices can get as ridic as the day is long because the buyer gets something amazing!!! I support regular tag sales that aren't overly priced. But what happened to sales? Just my opinion. I understand everyone has one too!

I agree with you. I am guilty of selling a tag for 75-80k for something that is recolored, but that's just what I've seen done so I thought it appropriate to price that way. I do agree that sales have gotten ridiculous with pricings lately. Seems like it's just price gouging because they know that people will pay that for a tag. Especially since there hasn't been that many sales of tags lately. If that makes sense. I'm a bit tired so I may be rambling or repeating myself. ♥

No I completely understand! In my opinion, collabs should be 75-100k because of half and half contribution. But a lot of it seems to be 70/30 so it's hard to determine then. It can be hard figuring out ratio's with collabee's too.. I try to do only half work if I'm only being paid half. but If i do most then I like more acknowledgement. 
buuut,I myself think tags should not be over 60-75k each. Just my opinion

I agree. When I do tag sales for tag sized bases/lines I find on DA, I price them at 75k because I thought that was a normal price because I also see tags to be prized that. I have realized that some people have others pay extra for animation, add-ons, shading, or even due to the difficulty of the character. To me, that's not fair. It's not fair to make a tag with or without shading, and make other's pay extra if they want shading. I'd also like to mention that it's not fair to price tags with EVC. I see some people price their tags for EVC, and not just one, but several. To me, I'd like to buy those tags, but for several EVC? No I'm not because at that point it's really expensive just for something that's 50x50. Plus, not everyone can purchase EVC with real money. That or I see tags priced at a couple 100k or more just for one? No. That's not fair. I like to keep my bank amount at a certain number. It is extremely hard for me to find EVC for a good price, and I'm going to spend them all one 1 small piece of art, but 100k for a tag? That's a bit much. I could go on, but I'm going to stop myself there.

I think 75k is fair for an own artist tag that's really good quality, I would say less for things that use free lines/bases that you are recolouring. I do agree prices have gone really high for simple recolours. I've not been buying much because I don't think the price matches the quality I'd be receiving.

I did do a credit tag sale recently but it was for the animated version of a tag that I was already selling still versions of for evd, so I think it was justified, It was also making up for my time spent on making the tag and for translating ridiculous designs to small sizes. People are entitled to sell for EVC if they want, art is a luxury really.

i've noticed this too, there's very few art sales besides designs so i kinda jump at every chance that shows up. i've been trying to make art for myself but thanks to real life issues i don't get much time to work on art and i have to rely on other artists. i'm also not comfortable enough to commission art without going too far under my budget (that is, if the artists whose styles i like are even open for commissions lol) but i have been thinking it may be the best way to get art right now.

in the past i've sold a couple tags for $75k mainly because they were full-body, but i'm thinking of going for $50-60k from now on unless i do something really crazy for a tag lol. i just prefer that more people have access to my art if they want it, even if i restrict how many recolors a person can get i'd like everyone to have a chance at a tag or sig. c:

i'll say though that paying more for addons and animations is perfectly fine with me unless it's crazy expensive. addons might require you to modify your lines/base and you have to fit them within your style. just slapping on addons without matching the art kinda looks weird lol, i've noticed some people don't do addons for f2u/p2u bases at all because it's (understandably!) hard to match another person's style. with animated art, depending on the animation in question you may have to recolor several different frames while trying to match colors and patterns throughout. something as simple as an ear flick is actually quite a bit of work!

other things like shading and character difficulty i'm not sure about, at least for me shading would just be turning on a layer and maybe fiddling with it a bit, and as for difficulty we already have the backup system which feels more fair imo.

If we're talking high quality work, I'd easily pay 100k+. Make that custom, and I'm happy to dump a couple million on it. But I tend to be incredibly picky anyways, so when I do find a tag/sig I like, I'm not too fussed about prices.

As far as designs go, I've been charging around 2mil per design (less if it's very simple, or more if it's very complex) myself. Just for the time spent per design, and because 2mil is what my designs convert to vs what I charge in real currency. They might be "overpriced" in comparison to what most things on EV sale for, but I've always had them easily go for these prices (or more, if auctioned). So I'm not too inclined to change them. I'm not really even using the money from these sales, sadly =/ I kinda stopped playing the actual game, and unfortunately not finding any art to spend it on. So just sort of sitting there wompwomp.

@Yeon - Your prices are high, but I can understand why they are. I would convert the pricing the same way so it's a equal amount for everyone. Another reason that I know you price them high is by the amazing quality in each piece you do. No matter how big or small it amazes me every single time on how much detail you can put on a design. Even if it's just a simple bay, there is still a lot of detail! With great quality also comes a lot of time put into it. I understand prices being high for designs made by high quality artist's. Your beautiful creations may be expensive, but the price is worth it. ♥

@Yeon, honestly, HorseGirl isn't wrong lol. Your designs have a certain aspect of quality that the price is accurate. You're like a brand name by now for designers. I've been jealous of your designing abilities ngl! haha My designed can't price at that level, one day, maybe lol

@horsegirl I do totally get what you're saying. You put a lot of work into what you do. But yes. I agree, we shouldn't have to pay extra for shading lol

@ maple yes 75k sounds reasonable for like, fully custom made stuff(like recolours of a tag the artist made). Honestly I've still only done 60k sales XD I should probably charge more lolol. And I agree it's always up to the artist if its EVC or EVD. I myself sometimes only do EVC sales in case I need EVC.

@Forgotten yes I agree! Very few art sales unfortunately. Ans I do agree with other things you brought up!

I agree with everything you have said, When i am selling tags i only sell for 75k but that tag includes a background, shading and in my opinion are usually quite detailed. To me it feels like sellers are overcharging due to the scarcity of art sales going on. 

For me i wouldn't want to raise my tag sale prices to match the market and what my art would be worth so i just choose not to buy the overpriced art on the market. It also feels a little insulting that someone is selling recolours from a base from DA or lineart that is flat coloured for the same price or more than i'm selling my custom made tag recolours. I'm not trying to say im the best artist or anything like that, but i try and put a lot of effort into my artwork and idk it just rubs me the wrong way if im being honest. It feels like some people don't understand the time and effort that goes into a lot of it and i don't have to sit here and make artwork for game currency when i could take commissions offsite, i choose to because i enjoy the community and seeing everyone's OC's grow. But its a little disheartening as i know not many others can sell art or get ahead in the game to have the funds to spend on art. I don't want to police what anyone thinks their art is worth ect. but at the same time i'm hoping people with have prices that reflect their art and aren't copping out just to make a profit- But thats just me >>

I'm a bit late to the game but I've been thinking a lot about this.

There seems to be a sort of unofficial cap on tag prices, everyone seems to have agreed on 70-100k for tag recolors regardless of quality or whether it’s original or a f2u base. I think part of the problem is art prices haven't kept up with inflation or artists haven’t put up prices enough as they’ve gotten better. I’ve just had a look through some old sales, a random collab from almost 6 years ago was charging 50k, does 50k really buy you the same now versus back then? 

Interestingly I think the design market is a lot less rigid, there is a massive range in prices from sub 100k to 2mil+. In my opinion having such a large useable range helps prices better reflect quality, complexity and the artists popularity. Maybe high end tags should be more expensive than they currently are? There’s a few artists that I personally feel are undercharging and could easily put their prices up but then fewer people would be able to afford their art, particularly new people, which might hurt the community more than some tags being overpriced.

Coming back to overpriced recolors, are they overpriced if people are actually buying them? You could make a guide on how much different types of art should cost but it would probably be outdated as soon as it’s written and there aren’t that many people actively making art so I think a lot of people just pay whatever is asked just to be able to get art.
