Huli
She stood quietly, thinking. A war? She never expected, or wanted, to see one in her life. "I don't feel threats are necessary. I can't speak for everybody here, but an agreement is an agreement." The term 'young people' could include children, and Huli preferred if very few, if any, experienced the horror of war. With any luck, it would be a small, quick, war with little bloodshed. She knew nothing about the circumstances, and the lack of information was a little disconcerting.Β

Kellan
"Consider it more a warning." Kellan looked at the people around him. "I will give you an hour to decide. Consult with your leadership or whatnot. My group will be back in an hour anticipating your answer." With that, Kellan turned to leave, trailed by his ever present shadows.Β

Wren
The arrival of royalty after such a long absence was unnerving, doubled with the fact that the entire village was at stake. "What do we do?" Wren muttered. The only viable option was to join the war effort, preserving the people and their way of life. As soon as the prince was out of the village, the whispers grew to frantic, near-shouting.Β

Huli
Huli melded back into the crowd, unsure what to think of the situation. War. She wasn't sure if she was relieved her fears hadn't come true or worried at the revealed terror. She sighed and looked over at the receding cohort. Who would the village send? Where were the leaders? Couldn't people quiet down? She was getting a headache.

Jasper
Β Jasper exited the general store, swinging the door closed behind him as he stepped out onto the front porch. He blew a bubble with the wad of gum he'd shoved into his mouth upon purchasing it, freezing right before it popped as he caught sight of movement up on the hill. He turned to face it, the bubble beginning to deflate on its own. A group of people on horseback, as well as a very large horse-drawn carriage, were just cresting the hill. By the shaken look of the crowd that had evidently gathered while he'd been in the store, the strange group of horsemen must have just got done visiting. Huh. Never seen 'em do that before. That being said..., He trailed off, sighing as he glanced down at the three loaves on bread he was holding, having been sent on an errand to buy them. It's not like I get out much. Just for this. That's it. Jasper mentally shook his head, shoving away his negative thoughts and looking back up at the hilltop. The group of mysterious visitors was already gone, having made it over the top of the hill. I wonder what they wanted.

KellanΒ
Kellan half expected to be attacked on his way out of the village. After the threats he'd made, it wouldn't surprise him. The group returned to their spot on the hill. "One of the squadrons was ordered to follow us here, no?" Kellan asked the captain, who nodded. "They'll be here soon. Where should I have them wait?" Kellan thought for a moment. "Keep them behind the crest of the hill - no need to spook the people, but have them ready in case they refuse my offer. We'll stop the rebellion before it comes." The captain of the guard nodded. "Alright, your majesty. I will let them know."

Wren
Her family moved into the crowd in the village square. People were panicking all around them - they had no idea how to deal with this situation. At long last, one of the elders of the village stood on a raised platform, where the prince had made his announcement. "Quiet!" She said. "We must have peace and order if we are going to make a decision." The mob hushed. "Now then," said the old woman, "We'll review our options and take a vote." She paused, continuing, "the prince has given us a choice. We can agree to his offer, send some of the young people with him, and in return receive more than plenty in compensation, keep our independence, and after the war is over, our volunteers will be able to return home and we can continue on. Or, we can refuse, and our land, independence, and homes will be taken from us, and more than likely the prince will level the village in response, based on his threats. Now, all in favor of refusal, raise your hand."

Huli
Huli was surprised to see some hands go up. The best option was to send people with the prince. What was the point of refusal? All it would result in was more pain. Huli sighed. She didn't really like thinking about darker things. Hopefully the matter could be settled quickly. She wanted to return home and start making a small meal for herself.Β

Jasper
Β He scampered to the front of the crowd, pushing his way up to the base of the large podium. He blinked up at the lady, not at all intimidated by her more senior age nor the fact that she had taken on the role of leader. "What happened?," he asked rather loudly - not unkindly, but without much respect or forethought nonetheless.

Old lady I suppose
"We've been asked to fulfill a favor from the monarch," the lady replied to Jasper.

She listened. War. Welp, if they needed someone to volunteer, she would. TheΒ  rest had people. She had no one who would care much if she died. "Soon" she mumbled to the impatient mares.

Jasper
Β "Count me in, then," he proclaimed, still without a care that he'd interrupted her public meeting. "When are we supposed to leave?" 'Come back in an hour, no more,' his mother droned in his head, but he tuned out the echo from earlier that morning. Oh yeah? How do you feel about this, mother?

Outlaw
Her hand went up as well, as far as it counted anyway. Most didn't even know that she existed. Which didn't bother her a bit. Also she was already wanted in other kingdoms, so not like she could make them hate her even worse, right? Actually maybe yes, but whatever.
