Torpid Void

Harper
Harper glanced back down at the ground, opening her mouth to say something, but stopping herself instead. She wasn't really sure what to say at this point- she didn't feel alive. "I just- I can't-" A few tears slipped past her eyes, and she attempted to wipe them away, but to no avail.

Louis
He crossed the room, a tissue appearing in his hand. He handed it to her. "What's wrong?" 

Harper

She took the tissue with a nod. "I don't feel alive. Like, my body's dead or something."

Louis
"That's... probably not normal. One sec." He stuck his head out her bedroom door. "Fay? Could you come here?" Louis wasn't sure what anything meant and wasn't as able to read things as Fay was. 

Fayre
Fay stood up, grumbling all the while, and sauntered down the hall to the bedroom. "What now?"

Louis
He gestured vaguely at Harper. "I'm not sure. Something's wrong." 

Fayre
Fay sighed, studying Harper quietly. After a moment, she shrugged. "Well, there's no nice, or comforting, or caring, or... nice way of saying this- excuse the bluntness, but yeah, she's dead."

Louis
He choked. "What do you mean?" Stay calm. Freaking out won't do anybody any good.

Fayre
"Uh, well- people kind of exchange reality for darkness? Not on purpose, but um... I guess the longer you stay the more you die in reality and become a part of the void? Apparently that happened, though I haven't really seen anyone do it this quickly." She glanced back at Harper, who was staring blankly at the wall.

Louis
"Hold on a sec, Harp." Louis grabbed Fay's arm and practically dragged her out of the room and into the hall. "There's gotta be a way to fix this. I promised her I'd get her back. I don't break my promises." He kept his voice low, not wanting Harper to hear.

Fayre
"Well I don't know of any!" Fay protested, her voice more defensive than it should have been. "Aerow knows more about the situation than I do. I only know that once someone's dead, they're dead. If I could fix that I would've brough my dad back a long time ago."

Louis
"These aren't exactly normal circumstances. Normally when somebody dies, they aren't still alive in some other dimension." Stress, fear, and anger laced his words. "There has to be a way. I'm not letting her die here, Fay." 

Fayre
"Well, they kind of are. We all go somewhere after we've died." Fay muttered. "I honestly don't know what to do."

He dragged his hand through his hair. "Okay. Explain how it works. How does being here make us die in the real world?" 

Fayre
"Uh...." Fay looked at the ground for a second. "I guess, it's like wifi? You have a connection with reality, and if you're gone from it for too long you lose connection."
