John
John wandered further into the house, pausing with a loud sigh as he spotted his sister passed out on the couch, under eyes bruised from sleepless weeks. He set the child down on the ground, moving to gently shake Alice awake. "Hey. Go use the bed, I'll take Co food shopping with me for an hour." She slapped his hand away, sitting up and muttering under her breath. "Fine, fine, just stop shaking me." She stood up with a yawn stumbling to the only bedroom in the house, leaving the other two alone in the large room that accounted for their living room and kitchen. "Cosette." John called softly, catching the attention of the child quickly. "I'm going to the grocery store, do you want to come with me?" He continued after she nodded eagerly. "Okay, get your shoes then, and I'll get changed."

Mason
I'm sad that none of this surprises me in the slightest. "Sapphire, huh? That's not something that most kids your age know anything about."

Nyla
"My mom bought me an old rock book from an antique store to keep me occupied while she was away. I've read it more than once." She drew her hand back to her side, enclosing the rock inside her fingers again. "And you don't even know how old I am," she added with a mixture of defiance and teasing.

Mason
"Tell me about it," Mason muttered under his breath. Textbook story. I know because I've used ones like it countless times. "Let me guess. Seven, really seven thousand."

Nyla
She giggled. "No, silly. I'm eight!" In this body, at least. "And I'm turning nine in a few months. And no thousands. The only person I know who could be more than a thousand years old is Mrs. Hopatch. She's really old." Nine means I've still got time, but it'll pass before I know it. Why did I even become friends with Jonah? I'm just going to hurt him. I would think I'd have learned my lesson by now.

Mason
"The only person you know, huh?," he repeated, laughing quietly to himself. "You've got a lot to learn, kid," Mason finished, ruffling the small girl's hair as he walked past her, resuming his journey to the grocery store.

Nyla
She watched him walk away for a moment, a puzzled expression on her face. She opened her hand to look at the rock, grinned, and set off for home. It would look perfect on her dresser alongside the rest. The good thing about being reborn again and again was that each time she still managed to experience childlike wonder. Nyla hummed to herself as she found her way out of the new street and back in familiar territory. She easily navigated back to the small house that she called her own and lifted the flowerpot empty of flowers. The key was underneath, and she unlocked the door. After placing the key back where it belonged, she slipped inside and closed it. I wonder who that person was. She determined to find out more next time she got a chance. Nyla walked quietly to her room, peeking into her mother's to see she was out cold on the bed. Nyla held back any reaction and tiptoed - yes, literally - into her bedroom.

Jackie
Jackie moved confidently through the street, thankful for her inhuman traits which help her blend into the crowd and live a mostly normal life in the city. She nodded to a man patrolling the streets, and headed off to a small shopping center she visited often.

John
John shut the door quietly behind them, leaving it unlocked, then hurrying after Cosette, who had already toddled halfway down the street, and she grudgingly took John's hand (more like a finger as that was all she could get her hand around), as they slowly made their way towards the closest supermarket, the girl stopping to admire a handful of pretty flowers in a shop window until John pulled her along. "We can come back and get them after." He assured her, and she took that with a nod, demanding to be piggy backed both until and inside the supermarket, as John grabbed a small stray basket, picking and choosing through the same variety of food that they always had.

Skye
Skye reached her destination- a stairway leading from the dark, cramped alley to an almost uninhabited basement. The windows were boarded up almost completely, blocking the view down from the street but still allowing whoever was inside to look out. Skye unlocked the door and entered, giving vent to a long sigh once it was shut behind her. She discarded her jacket by the door on an empty chair. She paused momentarily by the full length mirror on a wall and tugging the sleeve of her t-shirt farther down to hide the not-completely-faded, quite large and noticeable scar on her shoulder, unconsciously staring at where she knew it was. Stupid strangers and their stupid questions, she thought before turning away and entering a small kitchen. "Back early," a voice commented as she started making a meal for the two. "What happened." Skye scowled at the water she was boiling. "Run in with a one-man patrol- he didn't recognize me, thankfully." "There's something else," said an old woman, settling into a chair near the window. The teenage girl huffed. "I ran into this medic in one of the back alleys- literally. He must have some sort of medical modifications, because he instantly knew about this," Skye gestured with her right hand. "It went from 'sorry for running into you' to 'who did your plating' in less time than it takes for me to knock him out cold. I had no choice but to show him my wrist, and then he figured out where I'm from and luckily before I had to punch him, this toddler showed up and I booked it over." The lady listened, eyes focused on the window. "Did he recognize you?" "No. We've never met before, and I hope we don't again."

Desiree
Nothing eventful happened, so Desiree started to zone out.

Perry
He sat forward in excitement when the two slowed down outside the window, sinking back into the stool with predictable disappointment when they left. Stopping to admire the window displays was just about the only interest anyone ever took in the small, debt-laden shop.

Mason
He approached the door of the market, cautiously scanning the area for any patrolmen before slipping inside. He immediately headed towards where the bread would be kept, grabbing a loaf and stuffing it into his messenger bag, only planning to pay for it if a cashier noticed him.

John
"-Yeah, the hospital has been ridiculously busy, and we just don't have enough medically knowledgeable staff to handle everything, so when you get new recruits, send them over, yeah?" John laughed with one of the higher administrators, Cosette already long bored of being carried and wriggled until she was set down, exploring the little story on unsteady feet. "We're still trying to raise guard numbers, but I'll see what I can do for you." He smirked, and John smirked right back, and they laughed again and gave their goodbyes, leaving John alone as he turned around to- "Oh my god." He breathed, scanning the aisle in front of his and rhe aisles on both sides, coming up empty. "Cosette!" He groaned, and perked up when he heard a little giggle in response. "Hmm, I wonder when Cosette could be?" Another giggle, definitely to his right.

Mason
Mason entered another aisle and froze, staring down at a little girl who bore a strong resemblance to someone who he simultaneously hated and cared about more than he'd ever wanted to admit. "Not again," he muttered, grabbing a box of oatmeal, attempting to ignore her.

John
John heard a quiet remark from someone an aisle over, and when he poked his head around the corner, there she was. She squeaked indignantly but that quickly turned to giggles as John laughed as well, scooping her up and tossing her into the air, catching the squirming child. "Come on, I've grabbed what I need. Let's pay and then go and get some flowers for Kaylee, yeah?" Cosette nodded eagerly, and John glanced around her to the guy she had encountered in her travels. "Sorry if she bothered you." He frowned a little, studying his face more. "I don't think I recognize you."
