i dont really seem to know what i want to actually DO here on EV? like, RPing is fun and all but i have 70+ horses locked because i thought i wanted to start breeding projects, and its all gone sideways. considering just selling all/most of the horses, but does anyone have any advice or anything?

Rescue random horses that have a cool color? Breed them with other cool color horses and just name horses randomly for a while.

How about not playing Equiverse? Or taking a break? Sometimes when I get a little overwhelmed, I don't log in for a little while. It gives me a break to focus on life and when I come back, I am content picking up where I left off. Keeps it from becoming monotonous or boring, for me.

You could try looking through the people online, and maybe see if they want to chat or something? That's what I do sometimes, and I have loads of chats  now lol.

I take breaks occasionally. If I find myself becoming uninterested I’ll lock up shop for a couple weeks, get busy with life, and come back really excited.

I felt the same way until I started my Akhal-Teke foal rescue.
I adopt Teke colt and fillies up to retirement and breed them at each 19 and twenty. I really don't ever stop adopting either, if I don't have room, then I use EVD to buy more room. It keeps the excitement going, however now I have to limit the amount of horses I show at a time.
So, the horses I bred from the rescues are ALWAYS unlocked.
I always have 50-55 rescues unlocked and the rest is locked until some rescues die and get replaced.

As a person who was in the same exact place as you for a period of several months that began right after the recode (the recode has nothing to do with this but I mentioned it for time purposes), I'd like to share what I did. I kept my herd locked up for several months, as I already said. I spent more time on other sites than EV. I ignored the fact that my pixel equines even existed. I still visited this site each day, but I didn't touch my horses again until about August 2016. I chose one mare out of the bunch, who happened to be related to my first few horses on EV. I turned the rest into riding school money-earners (because I couldn't bear to part with them) and bought the Special Mare (that's what I'm gonna call her) a mate. I chose to aim for color. Over time, the rest of the horses died off (as did her and her mate), but the Special Mare's foal carried on her bloodline, and that horse was eventually paired up and bred, and so was their foal, and over time I built myself a line of color-based TBs, with a mix of outside blood and blood that's been in my lines for generations. I keep my herds small nowadays, so that I can prevent myself from getting overwhelmed by a huge mass of horses. c:

You could always let them die off and start from scratch.
