Club Boosts - Potential Game Addition

#144437 Posted on 2018-01-30 13:38:04

Club boosts are another development idea that is up for consideration, so since we had some good conversation going over on the previous potential addition topic (on luxury items) I figure this is as good a time as any to bring this one up for consideration too.

The basic idea is that a player could provide a boost in hunger and happiness for a horse whose owner is in the same as they are. On the horse's page you might see a message that says something like "The owner of this horse is in one of the same clubs as you - you can boost this horse's mood and hunger!", along some manner of button you would then press to provide the boost. The boost itself would be a small, maybe a 3-5% increase, and a player would have a limited number of times they could give these boosts every day, but it would provide an extra tiny perk for being a club member.

There is a small chance too that when providing a boost a player could find a small amount of money, or an item, or something of that nature. Those details would be worked out later if this idea is to be implemented. My question for you is how do you feel about this idea? Does it sound useful? Is there anything you might wish to see added to it, or any way you think it could be implemented even better? Please feel free to share your ideas below.

Note: I know there are some other issues occurring with clubs, particularly as applies to issues with inactive leaders, but let's keep discussion on this topic to the potential boost feature only - the other concerns will be taken care of in due course.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but technically speaking, wouldn't a player be able to visit a horse each day and do this to prevent it from dying? This might become a problem if a player wants to kill off a horse(s) but someone else decides to try to keep them alive. As of now, we can't unregister horses from clubs, so that seems feasible. Quite a few people are against culling (from what I've noticed), so I can see this potentially happening.

This sounds like a cool idea I just wouldn't be okay with it giving a show boost. Giving it a boost to increase show earnings would be okay but not to improve its performance and actually placing in the show. I just wouldn't want an unfair advantage, even if it is small.

That is a good point, Raptor - that would be a definite question in implementation.

As of now the idea is specific to mood and hunger, so this impacting shows is not currently in consideration.

Maybe we could make a way for members who dont want this to opt out, that way someone trying to kill their horse still could, or just those who dont want it in general could opt out. They of course could opt back in at anytime they wanted to.

I'm not really sure this type of club boost would be my first choice. I'm not sure I see the point in the idea that it's just giving food and happiness. I feel like most players keep their horses at 90%-100% most of the time because it only takes a few days to actually recover anything below 50% etc. This would only benefit the people who might skip a few days in taking care of their horses. Unless this somehow allows the food/happiness bar to go above 100% and go too 110%-120%. Then maybe that person can skip a day in taking care of that horse.  Also finding those player's horses would be a bit annoying. Unless there is a master list that tells you the happiness/food percentages before clicking on them. Or it turned into a random click here or there trying to find one that's low enough to help.

Idk I might do a different kind of boost depending on the club's main focus. Maybe competitive clubs could get small discounts on training areas. Or more fan club styles could get discounted horse slots. Or tack , treats, training etc. No solid ideas here because it would have to be thought out a bit more so it's not unfair etc. But it's just my thoughts.

With Wonder Wiki's idea, wouldn't it be easier to just add the ability to unregister horses from clubs? That would be useful not only for this reason, but other reasons as well, so wouldn't it be more convenient? As for the idea in general, I wouldn't mind this, I just don't think it should be added before other, more important things were added. :3

I'm not sure I see the usefulness of this. My horses are always at 100% simply because it's not that difficult to keep up if they are cared for and treated everyday.

I also don't know how many people would use it if implemented, unless the random rewards were pretty good.

Well this is why we need the discussion - to work out what problems there would be, see interest and feedback, and look into feasibility. All of the talk here is helpful and nothing is set in stone yet, so this is a good time to look at these problems or throw around ideas, just as we're doing.

where would the feed/treats come from? from the boosting person's inventory?
i definitely don't think it'd be fair to have it come from the boostee's stock, but at the same time generating endless amounts of feed and treats doesn't seem economically viable either.

what about a boost that count mend/repair tack?
for less than what it would cost the owner to repair it, money could be taken from the booster's in hand and used to repair one piece of tack X%.

while i think the idea of increasing happiness is nice, i wouldn't necessarily consider it especially valuable or really something that's even worth boosting

I don't see the point to this I take care of my horses every day and repair my tack every day. There are other more important things that need work.

I could however see something like this for "NEW" players to help them get a start in the game but not as a club feature.
Maybe make it available to new players for 3 to 6 months??

I know I would help out the new players in any way I can
