Eudora tilted her head slightly, looking as if she were about to kill Kahlen. "Who said that there's something in my head?"

Jade
She was about to say something but saw Bobby shaking his head. "We can't just let them fight!" Jade whispered furiously. Bobby nodded. "But they need to figure this out on their own," he replied quietly. "If it starts getting violent we can step in," Bobby added.

Eudora
"Someone much better than you pack of idiots," she shot back.

James

Jade
That was it. She didn't care what Bobby said. "Eudora," Jade said, as gently as she could, "don't listen to the Voice. It's trying to tear the quest to pieces and stop us from succeeding." She knew who was in her head. Who else could it be? Nobody else was speaking to any of them.

Eudora held Kahlen's gaze as if she were considering what Jade was saying for a minute.

"Mhm. And you thought I was lying." Kahlen folded her arms and held Eudora's glare calmly.

Eudora turned her gaze back to Kahlen. "I'm not lying either," she said almost calmly.

Jade
She blinked, caught off guard. She found herself simply staring at Eudora instead of saying anything, so she casually turned her gaze toward the pond. Jade's jaw set as she forced the tears from gathering in her eyes. When she had pushed the emotions out of her eyes, she turned back to Eudora. "If that's what you want to believe," she said softly, "go ahead. But as your friend, it's my job to try to keep you safe."

Eudora
Eudora already knew what was coming, so she stepped back and turned her gaze to the pond. "Really Jade, there's no need for any thing bad. You've already done enough damage to yourself today anyway."

"What are you saying?" she asked, not in a confrontational tone but in a thoroughly confused one. She understood the words, and that last bit she understood completely - it stung a bit - but what was Eudora's point?

"I've already figured it out, my solution then would be offing myself." Katie spat, ignoring the Pesanta meowing at her, trying to alert her to something that she really couldn't care for at the moment. "That way I wouldn't put anyone else in danger, because whoops, blind me thought I just shoved my knife into a Empousa when in reality, I've just attacked Jade because I can't see."
