The pegasi, who introduced herself as Haunt, flew over the treetops.

He nodded. "And Jade needs time to recover. We can't move while she's in this state. If we tell her that, though, I'm pretty sure she'd try to get up, which would hurt her. A lot." He turned and glanced at Katie. "Also," he said in a hushed voice, turning back to Kahlen, "Katie can't see. I'm worried about it."

He shook his head. "You're not doing it alone."

Katie
Katie remained silent, swallowing thickly as she reached out for her "brother", (who was absolutely considered to be her brother at this point in all ways but blood), patting around gently until she felt his hand, and twined her fingers with his. "It's okay to be upset, James. I remember when-" She didn't want to remember. "When I found out that someone that I really liked liked someone else. And I thought that their person was so much better than me in every way, and I eanted to hate her so badly.

"I -" she began, but he disappeared. "will," she finished softly, slumping back into her pillow. Did he - ? Of course he did, idiot, we were a thing. She sighed and pulled the blanket over her head, shutting everything out. She gingerly rolled onto her stomach and buried her head in the pillow. "Why can't I remember this?" she moaned.

"You make me happy." Katie whispered, rubbing the back of James' hand with her thumb reassuringly. "And look, this entire trip was doomed from the beginning.

Katie stayed quiet about families - while James knew nothing of his, Katie knew too much about hers. "I don't want you "here" - on the quest, kind of here, I'd much rather you somewhere safer, but you are here, and that makes this entire trip so much more bearable." She thought over how to phrase this next sentence. "But yes, James, I want you here. With our friends. I want you here, with me permanently, if I could even begin to think of being that selfish." She laughed a little. "You're the kind of person I would run away with, I'd like to think. Not in an romantic kind of way, more like a "hey so I found this cool little town that I wanna go visit but it's, like, three countries away, you in?" kind of way."
