Brands

I have heard this being brought up before, but I haven't found any actual threads suggesting it for voting so thought I would.

I think there should be a way for breeders to register their "brands" under their breed specific club(s), and also be able to "brand" their horses that have been bred by themselves, so if they sell the horse, nobody can change the brand, but can change the name of the horse.

You can only brand horses you have bred, or foundation horses you have bought from the EC or custom horse.

I think this would benefit breeders and all serious breeders on the site, to be able to keep track of their horses and others, and that way pedigrees would be easier to keep track of, etc.

If a breeder sold a foal before they branded it, the new owner would not be able to brand it as their own, it would just be unbranded until/unless the breeder bought it back.

For example:
I breed quarter horses and am a member of the quarter horse club. My brand is "§" and my brand would show up beside my name under the list of members, along with on every horse I have bred and branded.

I like this idea A LOT better then prefixes. Although I understand why people use prefixes (I use them too), I think it would be a bit... er... "muddy" looking for people to have permanent prefixes attached to horses names.

Brands might need to be submitted or something for approval to keep them appropriate maybe?



Edit: To be clear, I DO NOT support permanent prefixes being created and added to player bred horses.

Are you talking about putting them onto the art itself? I love the idea if so.

it would be impossible to put it on the art itself.

I've seen brands done before. Players could upload their own images and it would be visible on the horse. It looked ugly for the most part.

I would not be able to add brands to breed artwork, that would have to be left for custom images if members wanted to do it.

Are we talking here about a brand that just shows up before a horse's name, so something like:

N1 {GR} Cupid's Bow

with {GR} being the brand?

Abby, yes, that is what I am talking about. A little bit different then a prefix, as a brand would only be able to be a symbol or a couple letters, and not more then that.

Doing something like every account gets 1 free brand to be registered. And others can decide if deluxe members get more.

I don't mind brands but I absolutely hate the idea that if I buy foundations that have only been owned a few days by another player out of the store, they get branded by that player. I propose foundations automatically get an EV house brand and only player bred or custom horse creator horses get custom brands.

^ I agree, Arty. I think that custom horses should be able to get player brands, though.

Ok I do agree on that 100% since they are paid for and are almost as if you chose the parents to get the specific sets of genes. I amended my previous post.

I understand that when you click on a particular horse it list the breeder.

But for me if i sell a horse i bred and later find its offspring i can tell immediately in the pedigree view that i bred its parents etc. because many change the name of the horses when they purchase it. Which is fine and dandy but i dont want to click on every pixel pony to see if its from my line. If i dont sell the horse it has my mark and i know if its my horses offspring. I have a "brand" that shows me i bred that horse, this way i know who is my own bloodline or outside bloodline.

I think it would just be a nice touch. I also agree on it being a deluxe feature and for it to cost. Maybe a credit cost so we can add more financial support to EV even if it is small.

I think the first time you set it should be free, but to change it would cost.
I'm iffy on the deluxe only feature, i understand why it would help the site, but at the same time, im also on the side of basics, they put a lot of work into their horses too, why should they not be allowed to swell with pride when they put a brand on?

Unless we charge an initial fee of credits to gain access to brands? Buy the ability to use brands, then get to choose our first one, if we wish to change it, it costs EVD/EVC.

But with this comes the idea of who is who?
Is there a way we can "register" brands to the player?
Is there going to be a registry basically so we can go and view what brands are in play?

Sure we can look and find out ourselves, but what if we want to see who has what brand in an easy to find location?
What about duplicate brands, will we prevent this somehow?

@Grouchy - I like the registry idea! I think it shouldn't be changed too often. So many people change and i completely lose track of who is who. Maybe one allowable change?

I understand too about basics, but i dont think just anybody should get a brand. So many new players join and they can take a brand but never play anymore. But a player who is very active wants that brand but its taken by an inactive player etc. Im sure there are plenty of guidelines to come into play.

^ Maybe make it something you have to be a certain player level to achieve? Just to make sure it's committed players that can have one.
