A lot of you have been following me on my manip/precut journey, and after only 2 days of working on these, I am so happy with my progress! I'm excited for my future in manipulations. I really enjoy doing these.

First manip:

Gah if I had zee mooneis I would buy one from you! But I'm broke so can't afford anything, :(
But this is amazing! Way better than my first. But only thing I'd change, cut pout the mane and make it yourself. It makes it more your own, and can make changing the lighting/darkness on the horse and the scenery around it.
I'd also make the horse bigger, but I can't see the full size (on mobile, cant drag image to the bar, lol), but it still is pretty small.

It looks very good already! The horse has been cut out very nicely and the mane and tail look really good, too. I can't say for sure if they've been drawn or not, but drawing them usually allows you to really play with shadows and lighting. Another tip I want to give you is to look where the light source comes from and to adjust the horse's shadow accordingly. That can be very tricky and it's something that comes with practise, but it might help if you look at photographs of horses and see what the shadows look like :)

Despite all that, I can say that this looks MUCH better than my first attempt at a manip. Don't be afraid to try out new things and play around with the lighting and shadows, that's how you learn the most :D

UnlimitedMagic7- The horse is actually a precut, so it's already cut out smoothly with a nicely drawn mane and tail and detailed. http://fav.me/d3isy2l

I always dock off points for precuts since it's basically cheating lol, but I used them when I was learning too. I'd like to see what you could do from scratch, wey. You have potential.

I'm definitely gonna try to make my own precut today. Maybe I'll make one from Scout :D

I tried my best to match the shadow's angle with where the sun was coming from, but it wasn't super apparent as to where the light was actually coming from.

One thing I wish I knew how to do was repaint, I would've totally cut off the tail and mane completely from the precut and tried myself, but I have NO clue where to start with that. I'm gonna try to look at some tutorials today, but if anyone has advice for how to do that, I'd love to hear!

@Cab - thank you! I definitely wanted to start with a precut lol, especially since I could find such a nice precut.

Oh, whoops. Well, it's still very nicely cut! xD

If with repaint you mean changing the colour of your horse/background, I might know a method for that - if you have PhotoShop, that is. There I go to Image -> Adjustments -> Color Balance and/or Hue/Saturation
Tutorials on how to draw mane are pretty easy to find on DeviantArt, so you can find multiple tricks for those c:

Oh no, I know how to do that (I also have Gimp lol). Repainting is completely repainting the mean/tail or other part of the horse to make it look more like a painting than a real horse. Kind of like Cab's manips.

I also have something to say about the shadow, but it's different.
For some reason, I feel like it should be a bit disordered, per say, over grass/different levels of snow. Like, it looks as though you just traced the horse, made the color a transparent gray, flipped it upside-down, and matched it up to the feet. In other words, it looks unreal. (hopefully that made sense)
But it looks great, and my simple designs look like turds, so the fact that this is what you accomplished on your first try is pretty remarkable! :D

sometimes you have the create the lighting, using gradient patterns to add light and shadows is very helping. Definitely look at as many tutorials as you can! They saved my life when I was learning
