I had mine pulled the day after my birthday, which is in August.... Right before school started (my first year of high school) :/ I looked like a chipmunk :(

The procedure itself I don't remember since I was out, after I remember it hurting a bit but not too bad. Mine, however, were removed before they broke through (you couldn't see them). How many do you have, that must be removed? I only had 4 but I know one girl who had 5. Another girl I knew only had to have 2 removed.

Think of it this way:
It's going to hurt a lot less if you get it taken care of sooner rather than later. If you wait, they may become impacted or infected, the roots could grow around the nerve or into the bone or your sinuses... If you get them taken care of now, the more likely it will be a quick and easy procedure and better healing!

I got all four of mine taken out last summer, before they even started causing problems because my orthodontist didn't want his (expensive) work ruined. Now, I HATE needles/ivs/etc, but I took a vallium, sucked it up, and went to get them taken care of because I knew it would suck a lot worse if I put it off until they caused issues.

The procedure did not hurt. When you wake up, it's like waking up from a nice nap. You're so numb and confused for a while. Then, it does start to ache when the numbing stuff wears off. It's a little throbbing and you look a bit puffy, but the pain does go away fairly quickly provided you follow all the instructions they give you. (Don't use a straw, don't eat super hot foods, eat soft foods for a while, etc) I only had to take my pain killers for a couple of days.

Honestly, I hardly remember the whole thing at all. Going into the procedure feels like a dream due to the anxiety meds, I was out cold for the procedure, and they gave me such good pain killers, the bulk of the pain/healing is dream-like as well.
And NOW I never have to worry about them again.

I also google things when I had mine out (3/4 years ago) and it just made me more nervous. Try not to worry about it too much. Although I recommend listening to what the dentist says (like not using a straw or eating hard foods).

Dia did a good job explaining it

I had one pulled earlier this year, April I think, that came through and had broke. It came out a lot easier then my other tooth I had pulled at a different time, I didn't even need to take any pain medicine or anything after (though maybe it's because it had been throbbing off aND on before I had it pulled ). The one that broke before required them to put stitches in and seemed to take forever to heal (though it was closer to the front and so that may be just because it was more noticeable), but this one is almost completely healed.

I don't like the dentist either, I hate the smell and taste of teeth, etc so I sometimes wish I was like my aunt who has to be put under for any dental work since she is allergic to Novicane. But the relief outweighed all the bad things plus the dentist was uber friendly which is always a plus :D

Yeah I couldn't afford to do all four wisdom teeth at the time so I went with the one causing me the most problems. I was hoping to do them all at once but oh well.

I had my bottom two pulled a few years ago (they hadn't come in yet) and my top two haven't been a problem at all. Really, there isn't anything to be afraid of. They put you under a ton of numbing stuff for your mouth so you won't feel them during or after, and my dentist gave me the sleeping gas and told me to count back from 100. I hit 96. The area will feel a little bit weird for a while, almost like when you lost a tooth as a little kid, and they'll tell you not to do anything that requires sucking. Smoking/straws, all that jazz.

Have whoever takes you pick up your favorite flavor milkshake afterwards, take the pain meds they give you if it hurts - mine didn't. I took one dose as a precaution and didn't have anything that simply tylenol couldn't fix - and eat some soft stuff until you think you feel alright. c:

"have to worry about a ride there to make the appointment. i don't drive...."

They won't let you leave after being put out for a procedure unless you have a ride home. I don't think any good doctor would let a patient drive themselves after being anesthetized. If you're anything like me, you'll want someone there to take care of you after you wake up from your post-procedure nap xD

I didn't get the sleeping gas... I was told that it would make me feel worse/nauseated... so I just got the IV and I was out like Nittrous said... before I hit 96.

I got IV and sleeping gas. When I woke up, I was uncomfortable but not in a lot of pain. I took ibuprofen and was fine. Drank milkshakes and slept off the drowsiness from the gas. I had braces on as well cuz they had to use them to pull a canine tooth down. Was moving around after the first few hours too. Btw..DONT forget to ice your cheeks!! I forgot and I was a chipmunk for over a week.

While I was fortunate enough that my wisdom teeth came in while I had braces (they made room for those big ole suckers so I still have my massive chompers), I know very well the fear of the dentist.

I avoided going for SIX YEARS and started having visible problems. I knew I needed to go, but my fear was keeping me from making that call to schedule an appointment. It was actually Frosted Mint who gave me that push I needed. So I made the call, somehow managed to drag my scared butt to the appointment, and had my consultation. And honestly? It was pretty much a breeze! I've gone back one more time since then (February) for some more work and I still have about 3-4 more appointments to go, but I feel better knowing I'm finally in control.

Don't let your fear keep you from doing what you know you need to do. Being fearful of the dentist is completely normal! But if you let that fear overcome you, the end result could be a lot worse. Don't do what I did and avoid going.

Call your dentist, make an appointment, and go see what he has to stay. You got this!!! ♥

I work insurance for a periodontics office where we extract wisdoms. As long as your insurance is in effect they should be able to check it to see if you have coverage and to give you a rough estimate of your out of pocket cost.

I still have my wisdoms at 29 that need to come out, but I don't have any insurance. Don't wait, get it done :)
