What colors do you breed for?

#265876 Posted on 2023-01-27 10:28:55

I've got a question for all my fellow color breeders; What specific colors do you breed for?

I breed for Buckskins, duns, and dunskins, flaxens, silvers, and overos, double cream dilutes, and my newest one, chestnut Friesians. My first ever friesian, Satanus, has a chestnut dam so he is Ee, giving him a 50/50-ish chance of a chestnut foal with a chestnut mare. I currently have 1 chestnut, who came from him.

I want to know what color you breed for, perhaps someone has the same or similar goals :D

i'm not specifically a color breeder and probably don't know all the right terms;; but i like fun colors and am trying to breed out some of the more 'basic' ones like bay. i'm currently working with quarter horses and i'm fond of smoky black, grullo, silvers, dun, and any with champagne off the top of my head!

ooh, cool! I saw a post about more grullo colors, but smoky black and smoky black dun look like the mousy-brown grullos :D

I'm going to start in the color breeding process
But I have no standards yet

I did plan on Thoroughbred's being color bred in my future plans-
But that's a different story there!

Though I do want mixed colors
Maybe that includes markings as well~?

I did get a foundie mare who's named Hatred for Death, she has sabino, which is my ACTUAL FIRST foundie with sab in her blood!
She does have a foal-colt who's named Paint, and has the sab marking as well!

High Spirits was the best choice for getting Paint
And it makes sense really!

Oh and @Oswin
I have a stallion, Night's Stand, who's a smoky black boy I can reserve him for you if you wish to breed him! He just needs to get in your range of breedable horses, he already comes with 63.34 confo since I'm breeding to the cap now, and his stats are 412- trying to get him all tacked up but I'm using the junkyard to do so

So yeah! When he's able to breed I can put him up for breeding for you!
I might also have a stash of broodmares and studs in a division together as I just collect them, feed and water them, groom them and muck them out and they're put into the Stud and Broodmare Division as I don't use them anymore, so i might also pull up random horses for who your looking for!

I have silvers, duns, and a lot of other horses I used to breed and then stash when I didn't feel like taking care of them, but they do get put into the unassigned division to turn22 as I don't want them to be in the RC anymore, so I can totally help ya there!

Nice! I like to breed Quarters as the art looks great and they have a lot of pattern varieties(TWHs, Mustangs*, and Chincos have overo that's... well not so nice, have a look :P no hate to the artist, it just needs a minor update to match the paints, the last batch to be done.
I love overo TBs though, I want a herd of them lol

*dis girlie is mine :3

awww, how lovely♥♥ seal browns are so pretty, and irl I've seen some blue roans that are almost a true blue x3 It seems that in EV seal brown TBs aren't a thing :(

For Tekes, I actually try for the Sabino or Sooty pattern since their colors are limited compared to other breeds like Quarter Horses. I'm in love with the Liver Chestnuts though, like my mare Plagioclase
Always love a good Black coat, along with Cremello and Smoky Black.

Chincos, Seal Browns, flaxens, and roans. I'm honestly not too much a fan of any of the paint patterns like splash or overo. I like the solid coats. I haven't put a lot of effort into breeding out the patterns though.

Friesians, no other colors besides black and chestnut lol.

that Teke mare is gorgeous! Smoky Creams and Cremellos are my fave double creams, Perlinos have a bit too orange of a tail for my liking lol :3

I like TT chincos, the overo looks weird :P I have been trying to breed Chestnut Friesians and have one, my main stud is Ee as his dam is chestnut, so he produces good offspring with ee or Ee mares :D

I agree with that Teke mare!
Oh and I have two crems now, cremellos if you had no idea, I just know what a crem is without even looking at the profile page.

I love solid colours, mainly with my Racing Shetlands where I use to buy a heap of coat randomizers and marking applicators. Now that I have over 500+ horses it got too expensive to spend credits on every single horse. I would have to say that Silver Seal Brown Cream Dun is my all-time favourite colour. I try to breed for rarer colours without sacrificing stats and NSS, however since I only breed a pair of horses once I often find I don't get the colours I want;

such as this guy who is black despite both parents being classic champagne - looks like I'm going to be using a coat applicator on him.

I also love sooty and any type of double dilutions, and for shetlands, I love champagne.
♔Victory in Motion is probably my favourite foal at the moment in terms of colour despite not being a Shetland (I breed too many horses LOL)

I just wanted to say..
Adorable!

And yeah-
Well I mean it is random genetics after all.
I just keep getting black and smoky black tb's, but I just bred two blacks which bred a blackie I like.

But I guess I'm making blackie tb's a thing, and white tb's as well- so many unknown white's..
I do have tons of grays now, not giving up a single one as I need to use them at some point to boost up the lines

I should probably-
Some day to getting to fixing my lines a little bit-

They are so random right now..
Maybe when I clear out every other division that I have..

Oh and what other TB's exist irl but not on EV?
I'm sure that I'm gonna create a rare line and make it common..
On accident as well!

EDIT: I just want to be clear, that I was talking about TB coats that exist in real life but not on EV.

I love black, chestnut (especially flaxen), buckskin and perlino coats. In real life I like bays too, but in horse games there is usually only one shade of bay, this standard copper-ish kind, while my favorite bays are on the darker or the lighter end (think blood bay&golden bay). So in games, I usually breed away from bay (rhyme not intended haha), or introduce the cream genes.

Also give me all the duns! Grullas, red duns, dunskins -- mmm, so pretty.

And similarly to some fellas here, I don't particularly fancy extensive white patterns. A little tobiano or sabino can be fun, but I actually think it looks better on lighter (cream) coats. While for my darker coats I prefer sooty. Looove my sooty Tekes like this lad ♥

ooh, he's gorgeous! :D My rl pony Willow is a pretty shade of dark bay, sometimes mistaken for black in the shade. I really love this guy, the varnish roan makes it all the better lol. I love sabino Tekes, preferably Sb+, but SbSb is pretty too, and I have a few :D
