Traditional Xmas Foods?

#263942 Posted on 2022-12-18 11:15:01

Anyone got traditional foods they HAVE to have during Christmas dinner?

My Grandma would always make her traditional Finnish turnip/rutabaga casserole. And, this year I'm in charge of it! :D My Grandma doesn't cook the family dinners anymore, she just shows up for food haha and rightfully so.
I've made it before so it should turn out delish :D Christmas wouldn't be the same without it!

Honestly I don't know if my family has any traditional foods on Christmas. I haven't spent Christmas with my dad's side of the family since we moved out of state, and I still don't really know my mom's side. Then I try to avoid my future stepdad's side, but yeah I honestly don't know. Mainly because I just snack on the sugars XD

ooo we usually have some kind of meat curry, like fish or lamb. or we roast a couple small chickens in the oven! whichever it is will go with tons of rice and veggies c: oh and also a side of potato, either mashed or curried as well. as for desserts we don't really have much of a tradition anymore, though when i was young we liked making christmas cookies ♥ we'd make a huge ball of sugar cookie dough and split it into a few smaller balls. everyone would take a dough ball and use food coloring, cookie cutters, and sprinkles to make their own batch of cookies :)

Our family is more about specific desserts than dinner? Like we make Boston Cream Candy and Swedish gingerbread every year. Which... I have yet to make either yet. Or put up my tree. I'm very behind.

Lazanki (small, square pasta) with minced poppy seeds, some people also add raisins and nuts.

This post is making me so hungry!
We have always done green bean casserole and corn flake potatoes. Those are my favorite! As out main course we usually do honey glazed ham but last year my brother in law, who has gotten really into smoking and bbqing meats did a brisket and it was amazing! so we are doing it again this year.

We always celebrate our Christmas on Christmas Eve, my dad is in the medical field so he usually works Christmas day. We have a small family so its just me, my parents, and my sister, brother in law and their kids. We are doing a full thing today and doing brunch today before gifts and dinner. My sister is bringing her amazing cinnamon rolls. I love Christmas being able to spend time with family and eat a ton of food!

My family is pretty basic when it comes to Christmas foods. We do usually do finger foods at Christmas though instead of a traditional dinner. We usually have chips and dip, raw fruits & veggies with ranch and fruit dips, ham biscuits, sausage balls, meatballs, and taco salad. Then for deserts it's usually cakes and Christmas candy. We also make peanut butter potato candy, but we didn't have any this year.
