What's Your Favorite Breed Projects?

#262907 Posted on 2022-12-01 16:12:01

I just wanted to start a light-hearted post to see what everyone's favorite breeding projects are at the moment, and where everyone is at in terms of their goals.

I've always been interested in doing strange breed/discipline combos. As most of you already know my favorite breeding project has always been my Racing Shetlands, which are in their 4th generation, unfortunately, I've had to increase their numbers by getting a bunch of foundations and this has resulted in a heap of ponies having lop-sided pedigrees. Meaning, the majority have more generations on one side of their pedigree compared to the other side....Oops!! As is seen here. Somehow I have to try and fix that.

My Racing Trakehners are also in their 4th generation and were a breed that I started when I first joined the game, and I'm extremely happy with how they are going.

The conformation on all my breeds does need to be improved significantly. However, I'm not really interested in breeding for conformation due to the random outcome that can result when breeding for it.

What breeds is everyone doing at the moment? And how well is everyone exceeding in completing their goals?

I have two projects: Dressage Clydesdales and Dressage Vanners. Hopefully, Recognized Crossbreeds will be introduced in the future so I can merge my projects into Dressage Drum Horse.

My primary focus is conformation with colors as a side focus. The Clydesdale project is doing well so far! 2nd gen is showing an improvement in the conformation average compared to 1st generation. The Vanner project, tho... my problematic children. I am not giving up on them, tho. On the bright side, the Vanner herd did give me some blacks, solids, and creams as I hoped so I consider that a bit of success. I do have a game plan for reviving their conformation so I am going to remain hopeful for now lol.

Since the Vanners are being problematic ones, my favorite project is the Clydesdale project lol.

My pride and joy is racing Thoroughbreds. I'm working with 2nd gens at the moment (512 horses to be exact), but 3rd gen foals also coming continuously (and very slowly). My prime focus is conformation and NSS, in that order, and I'm very happy that my herd improves from generation to generation in both confo and NSS, although I think I messed up the training of the 1st gens and not always chose the foal I would choose now.
But oh well, I'm more than curious how 4th gens will turn out, and I hope to reach at least 60 average confo for the herd which seems to be a realistic goal (and may touch the lower parts of 61!).
But here are the numbers, if anyone's interested:

  • 3rd generation: 59.37 avg. conformation (0.07 avg. no. of poors), 53.36 avg. NSS - on the basis of 14 foals out of 256

  • 2nd generation: 58.03 avg. conformation (0.59 avg. no. of poors), 55.55 avg. NSS on the basis of 512 horses

  • 1st generation: 57.08 avg. conformation (1.75 avg. no. of poors), 57.37 avg. NSS on the basis of 1024 horses

  • My other favourite is dressage Lipizzaners at the moment, but the herd is also quite young (working with 1st and 2nd gens). But similarly to TBs, I get quite good foals so I don't complain, I see a lot of potential in the future gens.

i have way too many little projects i love :p but i recently got my paints paired up together and i'm very happy with them! i did have to breed all but 1 of them myself, i wish i could have found more foals from other people but i honestly like how all of them turned out. there's also my morgans (+ this little colt i'm aging up), they're on their 2nd generation and gen 3 should drop under 55 NSS c:

i also don't really like uneven pedigrees lol, which is why my quarters are staying on hold for a while. my paints are only restricted to a one page pedigree of any kind to make things simpler for me, but my quarters are supposed to all be 4th-gens with even pedigrees. i have managed to find two lovely 4th-gens from other players in addition to the four i already bred though c: just have to stay on the lookout for a couple more!

there's also my vanner herd that i'm currently putting on hold, it's the 2nd largest project i have so i don't have the time to show them right now. c': i've debated whether i should keep them or not because of how hard it is to handle them but i honestly don't have the heart to give them away. there's not too much of a specific NSS or color focus for them, i really just picked out vanners with coats and patterns i love so i'm very attached to every single one ♥

and while they were just a small random project, i'm really surprised with this chincoteague mare and stallion. both are single creams but all three of the foals they had together (A B and C) turned out to be double cream fillies O.O

It's lovely seeing people's projects and well-done everyone.

I love the NSS of your foals Bubbles. :)

edit: found a pony with a very lop-sided pedigree here

So my current projects are Driving Clydesdales & Mustangs, Endurance Clydes & Mustangs, and then Jumping Clydes & Mustangs. I'm doing those separately for right now, but when they hit 16, 18, & 20 I'm going to breed them to each other to get my DCR Busch Ponies going in those same disciplines. I also picked up a bunch of Arabians the other day to do Driving Arabians and possibly Jumping Arabians. They're just all mixed together for right now.

Right now the goals for the Clydes, Mustangs & eventually Busch Ponies is to have low NSS with good color. I may work on conformation later, but it's not necessarily a big deal to me to work on it for the time being. As for the Arabians, it's definitely low NSS with color. I'm aiming to have a herd of Dapple Gray Arabians eventually but knowing my luck with the GG/Gg gene, I'll have that in no time. I do have all my horses currently locked, because I don't really have the time to work on them all right now with the way life is going, but I really hope to start things back up soon!
