I was making a video for school with the horses one day and we were just about to go down to the house to review the video and upload it when I noticed something. I held her face straight and there was a HUGE gash wear the noseband of her halter would go. Thing is . . . she doesn't wear a halter in the field. My mammaw told me she heard a bang in the middle of the night and went to go check on the horses, but didn't see anything wrong. We think that she might've had her head underneath her feed trough in her stall, the neighbors shot a gun (they shoot guns a lot at targets), she got scared and raised her too fast. She must've caught her face on the edge of the feed trough and that's what cut it open.

oh dear, poor Cricket! Horses do seem to have a knack for finding ways to injure themselves sadly. Hopefully she heals up well, and quickly!

UPDATE: She is healing very nicely and I am finally able to put a halter on her without it irritating her face. Although I did ride in a bridle with no noseband last because when I rode her in her regular bridle (that has a noseband) it rubbed it. The picture below does not have any blood in it, so anyone can look at it. The bridle she has on in that picture was also the one with no noseband . . . obviously . . . 'cause it's in the picture. But yeah!

I’m relieved that Cricket is doing well. Did the vet recommend any medicine or ointment for her face?

Awe poor Cricket. I’m glad she’s healing well though! Horses are so clumsy sometimes haha. Also that’s a very pretty western bridle you have!

@CW Rescue Center, we didn't call out the vet, we treated it ourselves. We just sprayed some purple fast-healing stuff on it and that kept the flies off and closed it up.
