Who else hasn’t been to work?

#224990 Posted on 2020-07-06 15:06:01

I’m curious who else got laid off because of covid. I’ve been off since the end of March lol. It’s been a nice vacation lol. Except employment insurance has been paying out a lot less now since they paid $2000 in their first payment. I’m sure it hurts a lot of people, thankfully I have savings. Anyone got any hobbies going on in this time? I’ve been making doll house sets

I was between jobs anyway before covid 19 hit but my partner who is self employed has been out of work since March & has only just started back part time 3weeks ago but is still working from home & is even considering closing his physical office for good once the lease isn't up since he can work from home easily given his job however it looked more professional having a physical office.

He's an estate agent/letting agent. Things are slow house sales wise but he had still been managing the letting side of it for current tenants throughout the shutdown. New tenants are thin on the ground also but a bit better than outright buyers.

Anyway he was ineligible for any financial support from our government due to some dumb technicality so yeah; it's been fun watching savings deplete. Luckily we don't have a mortgage & only have utility & groceries & any property maintenance/repairs that may arise, to find money for. And no kids to worry about, So we are luckier than others.

Hobbies wise - I have discovered I can bake!

Aw, sorry the government didn’t give you guys much. Maybe Canada is different. Trudeau has been very giving. We get a special give out during this time if we get laid off
But baking seems fun! I’m not good at it at all lol. The only thing I’m good at is banana bread lol

I was laid off on March 20th due to Covid 19. I was able to find another job though so I’ve been working again since early April. I did receive around $600 in unemployment so that was nice.

It seems to be an uphill battle here.

I have four jobs total. Two at school (research and public outreach), and two at home (stablehand and photographer).

I had to move back home (3h away) - not too far, but not close enough to work. The entire university closed its doors and any chances of working for me there, so I went back home.

During the school year I work the two jobs at school.

During the spring/summer (May/June through August) I work the two jobs at home.

Because the school shut down, all university-affiliated work sites shut down, so I was out 2 of 4 jobs.

The photographer position at home is for a children's camp, which of course closed for the summer, so I was then out 3 of 4 jobs.

Butttt I managed to go back to my stablehand position for the summer, as my state re-opened a couple days prior to me going back to work, so it wasn't necessary to be deemed essential or anything, and one gal stepped down so I went from working 2 days a week to 6, which was a major change but I'm living for now, I guess.

My research lab has contacted me to work remotely for them and offered a paid position, however, they're being very slow with communication and it's not exactly efficient :/

But yes. While I was at home between all of this mess, I picked up a lot of crafting/art hobbies and also went to the barn to ride a lot more! I tried some new makeup skills and also spent more time with family.

I hope all is well over yonder, I'd love to see pictures of your dollhouse sets! ♥

My bro was laid off in April and so he, my sis-in-law and nephew all moved up here at the end of April/beginning of May. He decided to go back into the Army and will be leaving for Basic at the end of August... for 6 months! I'll be stuck with sil probably for the majority of that time (she is hard to be around), so not looking forward to that...

Wow the US government seems to be a heck of a lot different than Canada. I can still live off of EI. I’m not sure what you guys get in compensation. I hope everyone is able to make ends meet. I haven’t had to move back home because EI has been paying out fairly well for awhile. (Another reason why idk why people hate trudeau. We don’t pay medical anymore.. it’s all just free now)
I’m glad you found another job magnolia! What are you doing for work now?
Wow pistol, you’re like some kind of super hero. Four jobs? That’s insane haha. I’m glad you still have some of them though
And oh no wiki. If you ever need to complain, I’m here haha. I understand how living with difficult people are

I've been very fortunate and had landed a job in the deli/bakery department of a local grocery store a year ago, so I've been able to maintain my hours.

And I would love to see your dollhouse sets!

That’s awesome you got a job! Sometimes I smell bread when I get to or leave my work. It’s awesome. I smelled cinnamon buns last time. Mmmm

And let me get a photo! I have one more I did but I’m too lazy to take a photo right now lol. I’m working on another room similar to this right now

I work in Ag so I haven't been away from work. Things are getting crazy the closer we come to harvest time! I don't have much time for actual hobbies besides my lovely horse with all the things we do for our property, but we did get back into some gardening this year which has been very fun in spite of the gophers eating two rounds of tomato plants...

I love your little house! That's so cool and creative! Your color choices are awesome and the detail is astonishing.

I’m guessing Ag means agriculture? Sorry if im wrong! But that sounds like a fun job! And I’m glad you get to see your horse a lot! And gardening is a fun hobby! I can’t do it at my place cos I don’t get enough sun on my balcony and my cat enjoys eating plants hahah. I can grow bromeliads though because the leaves are sharp so he can’t eat them. (He’ll eat the pups though. Which are the babies. He’s done it before. I was so devastated coming home to all of the pups eaten before hahah)
And actually the doll house is a kit. Idk if I’m creative enough to do my own haha. It comes with everything and instructions to build. I buy them from aliexpress. They’re fun little things

Ah yes, Ag is agriculture, lol. I'm glad you've found a plant you can both enjoy! destructive little kitty monsters are definitely rough on some plants, our older cat dug out the ones he didn't like on the porch pots.

Well you did a wonderful job putting it all together then! it must take real patience to get all the little pieces together properly.

Haha there was certain ones he did like? My cats are good with plants in a vase, I think it’s the dirt that lures my boy. My girl cat has always been an angel. Simon is just a turd sometimes hahah
And thank you! Yea it’s definitely a lot of work. I use a lot of super glue so it can be a pain when it gets all over my hands haha
