Your Breeding Goals

#221683 Posted on 2020-04-25 12:38:14

So... I'm back. I used to play a bunch of different games under a different name and always had specific goals for my horses. I'm still getting back into the swing of things here and am curious where other people have their goals set for their horses.

So far, I'm working on driving dutch warmbloods... specifically planning on breeding for colors as well as high stats (conformation is low on my list currently, but still keeping an eye on it). I have a solid mix of plain and colored horses to start out with with my hopes being to eventually create homozygous color (either RnRn, TT, or RnT) international level horses.

What's everyone else up to with their horses?

I am fairly new too, and I wanted to breed Arabians and TWHs. So I have decided to focus on conformation for both, and see how high Ii can get too.Β

I came back few weeks ago. Time ago my goal was to breed high stats with rare color genes Mustangs. Now I've changed my mind and I go for the lowest NSS, trying to get not very bad conformation. And hey, if I can get high stats and low NSS will be amazing!Β

Working on having the best horse of every color available for each breed; with nss under 45 and conformation 70+!

my specific goals are as follows-

Trakehners - Looking to breed Cremellos & Perlinos & Buckskins and the Roan coat

Dutch Wbs - Looking to breed Tobianos with a soft spot for Black Tobiano and also the Roan coat

Friesians - Looking to breed Chestnuts & Plain Blacks (no white markings - idk why!)

Chincoteagues - nothing specific I just have them to add a bit of colour variety to my game.

my "in general" goals are to raise conformation and try to breed out any poors in a horse and bring down their NSS.

For all of my breeds, I breed for flashy and/or rare colors and patterns and that's it. Of course I have worked on raising stats over time too but I don't care about NSS because I don't show my horses. For my Clydes, I intend to breed out sabino and only haved solid-colored horses, whereas with the rest of my breeds I tend to seek out patterns.

I've got two lines of racing Thoroughbreds -- one in which I breed for clean lines, all Good+ confo, and low NSS; the other is simply low NSS regardless of lineage or conformation.

I've also got my western stock horse crew (Quarters, Appaloosas, Paints) that I'm breeding for clean lines and low NSS. Off and on I dabble in show jumping Dutch Warmbloods (because I love the artwork) with the same plans.Β

I have some color/pattern preferences in each breed, but I don't have the patience for that side of the genetics so I just quietly cheer if I get a combination I like that also meets my other criteria.
