Morgan Breeding Initiative?

#213989 Posted on 2019-11-24 10:42:04

Hello! (not sure if here's the right place to test the waters)
I've got an idea and I'm curious how many people'd be interested. I'd like to launch a big Morgan breeding program - I'd set up prizes for breeding achievements like beating the record for total stats or record for lowest NSS stats, maybe special conformation contests... Maybe combined with possibility of buying decent foundie cheap for people who are seeking to complete their foundiation herds in various disciplines? I have few more ideas.
Do you think that such an initiative'd help beginning breeders not to be discouraged? Or maybe you'd be interested in picking up morgans if there'd be an active group of morgan breeders?

(I'm seeking a way to resurrect a morgan club I got under administration and I generally feel that apart from few people who still breed them quality morgans have become pretty rare).

I would totally love to do this, unfortunately i am having to sell most of my Morgans, due to not having enough money to care for them. But if i ever am able to resurrect my herd, i would definitely do this :D

I just started this game, and Morgans are one of my favorite breeds! I'll be focusing my efforts on Driving Morgans for the foreseeable future.

I am very interested in starting up with driving morgans, I currently only have a couple of them purchased from another player. I would love to have more though.

I think that you have some great ideas and could help breeders, new or old.

Thank you for the info!
In few days when I'll have more free time I'll think through possible perks and the way the support system (I'm thinking mainly about a herd of cheap quality foundies since it's hard to get good ones that fit a discipline quickly) should work. I'll let you know when it's ready! :D

I would be interested in this! I have a small herd of young Morgans, I'm just getting started on them. Mine are all dressage

At this point, I'd be on board with anything that has an active breed we group.

Once my 3rd gen driving pair has their foal I'll be starting a new driving herd from scratch. I'd love see an active Morgan club too ♥

I think that apart from (probably separate for each discipline) skill ranking of clean-lined horses and prizes for reaching certain milestones in breeding of clean morgan lines (no overbred and no visible inbred) conformation ranking and milestone prizes would be a good idea. It seems to me that it takes especially hard work to find and raise horses who have both good skills and good confo and it'd be good to reward this aspect of breeding too. What do you think about it?

As on where to base the initiative the club'd probably be the best idea, as it provides a registry.
I already own one club so I cannot create another but I've been given Admin status on AMHA (with the owner's blessing to rearrange the features as I see fit) bc its owner is on indefinite hiatus. What I have in plan is keeping the current minimal registry requirements of 55.00 confo and 80 NSS to ensure the overall quality. However I'm a little unsure when it comes to minimal skill level requirement - it's good to be sure that the horses in the club are trained and their skills will rise, but I don't want to gatekeep new players and foundation horses.

That all sounds great to me Thunder! I would be very interested in participating, as that has been my goal to breed for good conformation AND stats.  I do have several foundations going to start my breeding program, as well as picked up a few Morgans from other lines that would suit my Driving focus.  I can't breed yet as a new player, but I'm working towards it.

Could someone explain to me what NSS is though?

I’ve got a few herds of Morgans started in Dressage, Jumping, and driving. I think your idea sounds great Thunder! I don’t breed for confo but everything else sounds great, hopefully mine will end up with okay confo.

Idonea, NSS are all of the stats outside of your horses specialty, so everything but speed and intelligence for western for example, the lower the better.

I'd be totally in for this!!

I currently have a few Morgans that I have in various stages of showing and training that I'd like to see if they would work!
