Need help getting art services to idk..flurish?^0^

#208825 Posted on 2019-09-10 13:29:14

So, my art services have opened, i have a few commissions, but not many. I will post some examples of my work below. But anyway, i need some help like i said, get my art services to "Flurish"(i couldn't find the word XD). Got any ideas? Post them down below. Plus could you tell me how i could improve my art skills? I use this site for my art, and i don't really know how to shade and such. I can't use deviantart,(my computer is dumb and won't let me), i have a chromebook, so if you know any other art sites, that would be awesome.

I’m kind of new to art too but I guess no harm giving some advice:
•Don’t push your art, you have to have patience, just now the art forums are very slow so patience is key
•Realise not everyone will like your art style, people will always have opinions on things and if people don’t like your art don’t let it get you down (not worth it!)
•Reserach what the art market is missing or what people are looking for

As for improving you’re art;
•By the looks of things you are using a bucket tool to fill in the lines, not only can this look messy it doesnt gov who’s any opportunity for shading or your own creativity
•I 100% recommend downloading GIMP if you have a laptop! Seriously it’s free and amazing, I’m not a pro and honestly am still learning but if you’d like I can give you some basic hints to get you started!
•EXPERIMENT! Find your style, I’m sure you can tell that people on EV have completely different styles, i still have to find mine but I am slowly getting there so just spend time finding your own style, like colours, patterns, realistic or non realistic style. You will have a unique style you just have to find it!
•Do your research with horse anotomy! This will help majorly for when you come to shading or creating your own lines. I recommend learning muscle groups, how they look and how they look when moved
•As well as anotomy I would research horse breeds, because not every breed of horse look the same as you will know, as well as this I would recommend researching coat colours and patterns (this will help with realism more than anything)
•Research colour theory and what colours are complementary and what colours clash (this goes for unrealistic characters and designs)

That’s all I can think of right now but feel free to message me if you need a little bit more help with gimp (although someone else will probably be a lot better and understand it more!)

Best of luck! ^-^

Tye basically covered it perfectly, but I will emphasize that practice is key. Not just with the art itself, but with the software you're using to create it. Take some time to play around in the program and learn the tools. Look up how to do something if you're confused. The first step to making what most people would consider "quality" art is knowing at least somewhat well how your program of choice works and how to do some of the most important things, such as coloring in the lines without using bucketfill, utilizing layers, etc. This will help make your recolors and designs look less messy and will allow you to add more detail. :)

^^^ Everything said above is great advice I'd add that it's also important to study color theory just a little bit. Nothing complicated, just which colors go well together and compliment each other. When making your own characters this really doesn't matter, you can do whatever you want! But when it comes to selling characters people tend to prefer ones that have a good color scheme. The horse in your last few examples has a nicer balance between its colors ♥

My only advice would be to soften the color schemes. The bright neon colors can be a bit much. Natural schemes go over quite well and deeper color schemes.
