Showing Advice :)

#201421 Posted on 2019-03-18 16:24:46

Would anyone willing to evaluate my QHs as far as what I can do to improve how well they do in western shows? Or explain why some aren't, and probably wont do well?

They are all foundations besides one first generation stallion, Some Like It Hot

I am not sure why some of my foundations do better than others, and why some of them aren't doing well at all.

I try to stay below 60 NSS, the highest nss on a foundation of mine is 63.

I make sure they all have 5/5 upgraded tack and I make sure they are at 100% before showing.

Maybe some of them would be better off just staying in riding schools, and hoping the first generation from them are better suited for showing?

I am really surprised that my first generation stallion, Some Like It Hot (listed/linked above) isn't doing great, his nss is 47.

SOS any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :)

It helps to show horses especially when they are in the top 20 stats of their division- I would riding school in between that point all the horses with less than 55 nss.

Thank you! How do you know if they are within the top 20 stats of their division?

You look at their total stats and see how far they are from improving grades
Ex: novice 1 max is 150 stats, horse is within 130+ stats
With locals the space between divisions is 100 stats, not sure about the rest of them, but it's the same principle.

I'm sure someone has it posted in the equiverse chat- I would try the forum search

Also, are you showing multiple horses in the same show? If so, try hand picking shows to put no more than two in the same showm

Is this the one? I think it's still up to date, so far I've never had a problem with the info being incorrect.

Bandit- Yes, I have noticed that some of my horses end up in the same shows since i have been using auto showing. I will just hand pick for now and see if that helps! Thank you so much!

Bubbles-Yes, I think that is it! Thank you!! :)

^^ they pretty much covered it, though I'd like to stress the hand showing a little more.
I've mostly ignored only showing when a horse is near the top of its grade unless it's really struggling (too much effort!), but really look through the shows to determine if there's enough to ensure I have an absolute maximum of 5 of my own horses per show (as there has to be 5 entries in order for there to be a chance for stat gains). Ideally if there's fellow competition from other players in a grade I would only place 3 of my own horses (as only 1st-3rd have the chance for stat gains).

I don't go around clicking on every single individual show entry if I don't have to though, usually just make sure there's enough and then autoshow using various options (usually lowest if there aren't any other entries) so it's not as tedious as it sounds.

you can see the results of this with my arabs, which are close in age to some of your horses. I think they all have about 65ns or less
