It is September of 2030, and the spread of a virus has arisen.
Or is it a virus?
Many people have gone missing, or gone into an endless coma that one cannot determine the cause of. Most don't awake, but the ones that do are never the same. Nobody knows if it is simply maddness, or possibly a disease that makes this outbreak happen, but only a chosen few go to these microcosms, and come back out again.
In the meantime, the ones who wage war in their minds are suffering greatly from this "disease". What they see no one else sees, and what they know must never escape their lips. They must survive this world in fear, and if they manage to re-enter reality, will they ever really be the same?

Harper
The day had been long and troublesome, but then again, Harper made most of the trouble, so she couldn't complain. It was past her bedtime- she was hoping to stay up to see her dad when he got home, but he apparently had to work later than normal, and exhaustion was overwhelming her. So she laid in bed and stared at the wall. Shane was in the bed across from hers, making soft breathing noises as he slept. The seven-year-old had suffered much from Harper's trouble, and had been quite eager to get some much needed rest. Harper couldn't blame him at all. She glanced over and saw his figure being cuddled by a cat, which was normal. That cat practically followed him everywhere.
She sighed to herself, not really thinking about anything, but thinking about everything at the same time.

Louis
The key clicked in the lock and Louis pushed his apartment door open. After stepping inside, he let it close with a small swish and relocked it, then shrugged off his coat and took off his shoes. The clock he had hung on the wall told him he should start getting ready for sleep, considering he had to wake early in the morning and head to the office. He and Donovan had rented an office space and met there for the first time to start brainstorming their start-up company ideas. Louis and Donovan had become friends in college, and Louis was glad to be working with him. After an entire day of throwing out ideas (most of which were terrible, but that's why they did it, right?), they had ordered pizza and relaxed for a bit before jumping into a couple more hours of business talk. Now that he was finally back at his apartment, Louis was feeling tired, content, and excited. He entered the small bedroom and grabbed his sleepwear from the dresser before going to the small bathroom. He paused in the doorway, pulling his phone from his pocket to send a quick text to his sister. "I'm home. Today went well with Donovan. How was your shoot?" He tossed his phone onto his bed before stepping into the bathroom. After changing and brushing his teeth he exited, turning off lights as he passed the switches. Louis flopped onto his bed and checked his phone. No text back from Em yet. She was probably still working, then. He turned on the little lamp on his nightstand and scooped up the fantasy novel, flipping open to the page he was on.

Harper
Harper finally fell asleep, although she didn't feel sleep. The quietness stung her mind, but the world around her still hung in her mind.

Louis
He finished the chapter he was on in the book and, yawning, slid his bookmark in. Louis set the book in its spot and set an alarm on his phone to wake him up before clicking off the lamp light. It took a moment for him to get all settled in the bed, and once he was his mind was thinking too much for him to sleep immediately. Thoughts about the book's plot interjected into ideas for the company. After a few minutes of this, Louis finally quieted his brain enough to drift into sleep.

Harper
Harper woke up, her brain blurred and uncontrollable for once. She felt like someone had just induced her with sleeping medicine, causing her to feel terrible in a very tired way. But she felt completely awake, just not mentally. She slipped out of bed, for some reason deciding to go change into clothes, which seemed completely weird to her, but she did it, and then went to her bedroom door. Opening it revealed utter blackness behind it; a void she didn't know was there.

Louis
Just like most nights, Louis slipped into a dreamless sleep. Somehow he managed to escape a lot of the nightmares associated with demigod sleep. Occasionally he would have one, but it was quite uncommon. This night was not a typical one, however. While the darkness stayed, Louis found himself semi-conscious. He felt a little groggy. An inky, heavy black settled around him. He sighed. Really? After a few minutes of waiting for some deity to talk, he realized that it seemed this would be different. Though he couldn't see anything in this pitch black, he moved forward.

Harper
Harper stepped into the void. It didn't seem solid to any degree, and yet she was able to stand in it perfectly. She studied the darkness silently, her mind starting to clear slightly as her senses came back. There was a dim light from somewhere, starting to fill the void, but very slowly. Hatper figured it was from her bedroom, so she turned around to see. But all she saw was a horizon where the sun was just barely starting to rise. She stepped back in statement, stumbling and falling when she felt sand under her bare feet. Well this isn't good...

Mason
Mason knew how he'd ended up trapped there, but he didn't know what 'there' was, nor if there was a way to escape from it.
He'd passed out drunk in the back room of a bar in Ireland - how he ended up there is a story for another time. That much he was certain about. Though, for a person who rarely had dreams, finding himself in an odd dream-like state had been rather jarring, and coming out of that fog only to return to consciousness in a strange post-apocalyptic world had been even weirder.
After a short while of walking around aimlessly, still quite groggy and disoriented, he'd stumbled across two guys mocking a much smaller and weaker person for something that Mason wasn't sure of and didn't care to know. Like any chivalrous (hah, funny) person would do, he stopped and called the attackers some questionable names and phrases, not thinking it would lead to much more than the same old type of street scuffle that he'd fought in and won countless times.
Turns out, they were law enforcement officers, and apparently, helping people out was a crime in this strange dream city. Who knew?
Long story short, the officers were quick to change their target from the kid to Mason. He tried to fight back against them, ended up getting knocked out, and woke up an unclear amount of time later in a box of sorts roughly the size of a telephone booth.
That was a day ago, if Mason's perception of time was accurate. He'd spent the majority of the day trying, and ultimately failing, to get some sleep. His entire body felt broken, though, surprisingly enough, he was able to stand. However, due to the cramped space, he found it easier (and far less painful) to just sit. He was still slightly hungover, though the biggest pain in his head now came from where one of the officers must have bashed him over the head with something in order to knock him out. The area was most definitely bruised, though a good 80% of his body was. He also had quite a bit of crusted blood on him from... He didn't exactly know where it came from, but he currently was only bleeding a little bit (courtesy of a few smallish cuts and scrapes), so he figured he was probably fine.
He'd also spent the day trying to figure out where he was. Part of him reasoned that it was just some weird dream that could be blamed on all the alcohol he'd consumed the night before. Another part of him speculated that it could be a little treat from his father. Yet another part of him wondered if he'd died of alcohol poisoning and gone to some kind of hell, which was arguably the most likely of the three guesses.
Mase stood, rubbing his face once he was up, wincing when his fingers brushed across the painful bruised area towards the top of his forehead above his right eye. He muttered something incoherent and most likely nonsensical before proceeding to go about doing what he'd done nearly every time he'd stood up: Slam his tired, bruised body against one of the sides and see if he could get the box to topple over. If he could, it'd most likely break upon hitting the ground, which would mean that he could escape.
This time, shockingly enough, it worked. The heavy, metal-floored box of doom tilted on its base for a heartbeat before falling over onto its side. Mason - obviously - fell with it, hitting the ground with a painful thud. His body screamed with pain, causing his vision to start to go black, which was fine by him. He needed sleep, even if it meant blacking out again. He let the friendly blackness fill his mind until it was blank with unconsciousness, exhaling contently. However, there was one minor problem that he'd eventually become aware of whenever he woke: The box was still perfectly intact.

Louis
Light slammed into his eyes and they were instinctively pulled shut. Louis slowly opened them after giving his pupils a moment to adjust, as they had been extremely dilated a moment before. He peeked one eye open, found it wasn't painful, and opened both fully. Where am I? He was standing barefoot in sand. A barbed wire fence stood at his back and continued on both sides. The sky was still partially dark, the sun dawning over this mystery land. Louis glanced at the flora that he could see and noted how it seemed to be some sort of desert terrain. A slight breeze rippled against his skin, the sand was still cool (having not yet been warmed by the sun), and he could smell the air. Am I dreaming? Louis felt his wrist and felt the familiar pulse under his fingers, along with the very real texture of skin. Despite it being a huge cliche, he then proceeded to pinch his arm quite hard and wince with the pain. He inhaled slowly, trying not to panic, and then let it out. A muttered curse quickly followed. How did I get here? Why am I here? And how do I leave? Louis noticed what seemed to be a town a distance away, though he could barely make it out from where he was standing. He glanced to the side, following the fence with his eyes, and wondered about it's purpose. To keep things out or in? And which side am I on? A movement near the ground a little ways away caught his attention and he frowned slightly when he looked at it. Louis made his way through the sand over to the little girl and leaned down slightly, offering a hand to help her up. "Hello. Are you hurt?"

Harper
Harper had been panicking internally, trying to keep down the shock as it threatened to make known itself. She fliched when she heard the voice, which she was very surprised to hear, considering she could've sworn there wasn't a person around her before. She stared at the hand for a moment, then quickly masked her fear and got up without the help. "I'm fine," she muttered, dusting herself off and glaring at the ground.

Louis
"How long have you been here? Do you know where your parents are?" He wasn't sure if maybe she was from here or not, but hopefully he could help her get home. Maybe. He still wasn't even sure if this was a dream or not.

Harper
"I just got here..." Harper looked around, turning a full circle once to gather her surrondings. She muttered quite a few choice words in French- all of them words that Auberon would most likely have washed her mouth out with soap for. She sighed quietly and started forming a, probably, deadly plan in her mind.

Louis
"Do your parents allow you to say stuff like that?" Louis asked, though rhetorically. It didn't really surprise him that she spoke French. A lot of people did, and besides, he didn't understand anything about this place yet. "Well, come on, then. We may as well go take a look at the town. I have a feeling it'll get hot, and we're going to want shoes."

Harper
"No, but they're not here, so who cares?" Harper snapped back, though it was quiet and barely audible. She stood there for a moment before biggining to follow him, most likely doing that against her better judgement.
