NYC High School

Kahlen 
"Oh, gods of Olympus," Kahlen muttered under her breath. She grabbed his hand and dragged him behind her as she walked. "Maybe I should've followed through with the newspaper."

Auberon
"It wasn't my fault!" Auberon protested, stumbling over himself from the sudden movement. "And that was my tree of life, how dare you take me away from it."

Kahlen 
"It's a tree. It's not going to go anywhere." Kahlen continued, crossing a street and past apartment buildings.

Auberon
"No, but I am!" Auberon grumbled, trotting up next her so he wasn't getting dragged.

Kahlen 
"Exactly." Kahlen glanced up at him and shook her head, a smile breaking through. "Here we go again."

Auberon
Auberon smiled and kissed her lightly on the side of her head. "Just don't die on me, and definitely don't find a different boyfriend," he teased.

Margot
Em ran a brush through her newly-dried hair and then quickly discarded it o the side. As she slipped her arms into the sleeves of a pastel yellow hoodie she walked down the stairs of her two-story home. "Good morning, Mom, Dad." She smiled at her parents, snagging a piece of toast off the table and slathering some butter onto it. "Are you excited for school, Louis?" Her younger half-brother sat nibbling at his own toast. Em could easily see he was nervous, and the small shake of his head confirmed it. "You'll be fine, 'kay? I'm sure you'll have fun. Fourth grade isn't that scary, I promise." She ruffled his hair, said a quick good-bye to her parents, and exited. She paused a moment just outside the door, breathing in the early morning air, and then set off for school.

Kahlen shook her head slightly, not looking at him. "Shut up," she grumbled, rather halfheartedly, since she couldn't smother the smile on her face. 

Margot
Em paid at the booth and walked down the steps into the underground labyrinth of the subway. She didn't even need to look at the signs, easily navigating to the correct place from years of experience. Em tugged on her hoodie string to even it out as she waited for the subterranean train to arrive.

Mason
 For being a tourist resource, made for the sole purpose of helping out those who had little to no knowledge of their surroundings, the map that he'd acquired was terribly unhelpful. After about forty-five minutes of cursing the map under his breath, cursing the map out loud, and 'hey you, hipster with the beanie, can you use your little future box to tell me where the school is?', Mason eventually reached a park, which, if he wasn't mistaken, wasn't all that far from the school. He sighed, readjusting his ever-present bag on his shoulder - he'd brought his bag of keepsakes, but not a backpack of any kind, just as one might expect of Mason - before continuing his trek through the busy streets.

Margot
The subway pulled up with a loud screech of brakes, the wind it caused whipping loose papers into the air. Em waited for the passengers already on the bus to exit - instead of shoving her way on like some rude people did - and then climbed inside one of the compartments. As she sat down on one of the seats, she took the book from under her arm and opened it on her lap, flipping through to the correct page number. Her phone was in her pocket, unobtrusive but there in case of an emergency or if she simply wanted to talk to someone. Em was already reading as the subway started up and began sailing its way toward the next stop. Three stops later, she closed her book and stood, leaving the subway and trailing her way out of the earth and up into the early morning light. The city's morning air wasn't as fresh as the countryside in France in the summer, but it was still morning air. And Em loved morning air. It smelled crisp, like a new beginning, a fresh start. With a small smile she started down the street for the school. This was the closest stop to the school, and she still had to walk several blocks to get there.

Auberon
Auberon grinned. "Sorry, no can do."

Kahlen 
Why is he so infuriatingly cute. I can't pretend to be annoyed when he does that. 

Auberon
"And also I can't be away from that tree longer than thirty minutes," he mumbled thoughtfully.

Margot
Em should have brought her earbuds. First day of school and she was already heading for a year of forgetting them. Usually, if she remembered them, she would listen to her music on the way. While riding the subway, while walking... The entire way. Her best friend Georgia lived very close to school so they didn't walk together for quite clear reasons. She pulled out her phone and checked the time. She was several minutes ahead of schedule, like she had hoped. Just up ahead was a small coffee shop, and she liked to stop in when she was early. Em entered and ordered her usual - a plain cappuccino with a pinch of sugar and a nice hot scone in a napkin. All to-go, of course. She exited the shop with the styrofoam cup in one hand and the pastry in the other. Today would have been an excellent day for music. But it was alright. It was a good morning - the air smelled wonderful, and she had had time to stop at her favorite coffee shop. Plus she was wearing one of her favorite hoodies - the plain, pastel yellow one that gave off a happy air. She smiled as she walked, singing a song in her head.
