I think it's because grey essentially 'takes away' all possible colour variety by simply covering that colour up. Part of the fun of a number of breeds is the variation in coats, and having a grey horse or breeding a horse that will pass along that masking grey makes those coats invisible or irrelevant. I don't much like grey for those reasons, because I like to breed for specific colours (which means getting a grey is a major disadvantage) or for colour variety in general.

Pretty much what River said. I don't mind a grey here and there but the fact that all of their offspring are grey is a bummer. I don't want a whole herd of them ;).

It ironic really as in Real Life I adore greys above all others but then Im not breeding horses in real life soo it doesnt matter. However on EV it just means a singular color horse line which can be disappointing.

Having said that the breeds I raise on my main have limited coats anyway mostly bays so Im used to "disappointing"!

That said I have a herd of mostly grey Lipi's on my other account so meh. And my herd of Clydes are mostly bay too so Im more accepting of boring coats!

I don't actively dislike grey, but in the game there are a lot of really nifty colors, depending on the breed(s) you have. Seems a shame to have them all covered up... :D

That said, if the horse is good, I'll keep a grey. It can always be bred out down the line.

It's all about the fun of the challenge for me.
I like gray just fine, but as already mentioned, it's just so common. Aiming for those rarer colors is more exciting XD

Meh. In the older EV I just would buy gray wand but now we essentially have to deal with it :P If done right you can successfully breed gray out of a line to the third generation, it just takes time :) I just choose to do non grays because they typically sell better. I don't mind a Gg if it's hiding like a perlino under it. Makes it interesting when breeding :P

I wouldn't mind the greys so much if there was at least a variant in the end result. So far I've only seen them all turn pretty well white at a certain point. If there were dappled greys, steel greys, fleabitten greys, dark greys, light greys, grey/white, etc, I'd be perfectly happy with that. But with the current status of greys, it completely covers base coats and all markings essentially making the entirety of it's uniqueness completely useless.

Hope that made sense.

Exactly. I miss the variations in grays. But oh well. I still don't mind it. And gray is super easy to breed out.

Grey is undesirable because it hides white patterns.

Love grays IRL and breed specifically for them here, while variation would be nice (Dappled Steel Gray OMG) I can wait for it to hopefully be added down the line.

I agree with River, I don't favour them because the grey covers up their potential markings and colour patterns. On the old EV if a horse was grey, you could still see if they had sabino or rabicano markings etc without looking at their genotype, but not on this new version, and I think it just makes all grey horses look the same or very similar :/

"you could still see if they had sabino or rabicano markings etc without looking at their genotype"

You don't need to geno type a horse to see it carries markings, the horses page states it as such. If you mean things like socks, stripes etc they are visible until the horse "grays out" at 10yo.

example

Color Gray
Markings Rabicano
Genotype Not tested for genotype!Visit Vet?

I was hugely disappointed when I realized what actually happens to them when they age. Lol I'm so naive I guess. One I purchased was a beautiful silver blue almost lavender dun (smoky fun or grullo genotype I'm guessing) at 5 years old and then continued to turn lighter and lighter into white. I want those lovely blue black tones and dapples!!

It's because I do not like their sudden changes and I completely miss some stages. Most real horses only turn white when about 15 years old and not at 7 years. I want a gradual yearly change for greys.
