help with showing?

#170633 Posted on 2018-05-15 06:52:03

i’m not certain if this is related to the showing bug or if there’s some component of showing that i’m somehow ignorant of.

is there an explanation for why this horse bombed all of her shows yesterday? I’ve got quite a few others that are inexplicably losing despite higher stats and equal training level to their competition, but that horse is the most stark example of it.

edited to add direct link to her show results: http://www.equiverse.com/show-results.php?hid=669211

I would check the show and look at the competition. You can do that by clicking on the show name. That's what I did as a new player when I want rd to learn how best show my horses.

I have same problem with my horses. They used to do so well until the newest change and they all flopped ever since... I've locked majority of my show horses.

I am not sure why my horses flopped. I've checked their show results... well for few of those who miraculously placed above 10th... All of my Beta Morgans but for two placed below 10th place in ALL OF THEIR SHOWS. Due to that, I cannot check their results and try figure out what's the cause.
Based on two lucky beta morgans' result, I can't really figure out the reason.

Abbey just tweaked it again (see news article), try showing again today and see if you get better results, so far people in the discord who showed after the tweak was made have recorded promising results

@ Eliza D, I am very aware of the new tweak since it is the reason why my horses flopped in past two days.

They used to do so well until the newest change and they all flopped ever since...

The newest change I am talking about is the one from news article that was posted on 2018-05-13 08:21:46.

I'm having problems with the newest change as well. And in looking at the horses who are winning, it's nearly impossible to tell what they have over other competitors.

Hey all.

It looks like there's a bug in the system, it hasn't been correctly storing the score which is created when you enter a show.  I'm working on a fix at the moment, I'll keep you updated.

I finally got show results for my last show herd (Alpha Morgans).

Alpha Morgans contains 8 horses, all in R5. Before the newest changes, they all did very well in shows. Bottom fours usually would win everything in one day then loses half or less the next day. However, they are able to keep up in stats wise so I know that they still did very well (especially when I compare their performance to my Friesians).

Rembrandt is one of my top show horse and he won nothing... He placed below 10th in 9/10 shows and placed 9th in 1/10 shows. CaravaggioGentileschi, and De Champaigne are the only ones that remarkably well while the rest flopped when all of them normally did very well.

Based on this result, it is basically confirmed that the newest change was the cause. None of my Alpha Morgans placed below 10th since 16 years old and now majority of them got placed below 10th.

Due to that, I am going ahead and lock all of my show horses :)

EDIT: I made this post before Abbey posted so I didn't see it until I posted mine.

Okay.  There was a big bug which has been longstanding, I'm not sure for how long.  It kind of explains weird show results but they should be a lot more stable now.  Starting from this post, everything should be back to normal with entering - but horses entered in shows prior to this post will still experience some odd results.

I'll make a notice in the next news to announce this.

In future, I would still urge you to create a Bug Report if you experience strange show results rather than relying on the forums though. I spent over an hour today fixing bugs and there were no reports about shows. I didn't notice any issues with shows until, by chance, I decided to browse the forums.

Instead of locking up and getting despondent, I'd rather it was reported as a bug that I can at least look into if not fix.

@ Abbey,

the biggest problem with shows.. it is hard for us to know if it is the bug or not. We have people who reported that their horses did wonderfully and then you have people who report that their horses flopped.

Realistically, there are winners AND losers in all shows. It is natural that there are players who have horses that flopped. I didn't report it because I wasn't sure if it is what tweak intended to do. I always find that it's odd that my foundies did better than some of lined horses in the past but I am happy with it. I wasn't thrilled when my foundies flopped but I wasn't sure if it is the bug or tweak working as it intended to.

Any tips on identifying any potential bugs/errors in show system? I don't want to jump conclusion and report for potential bug every time my horse flops.

Basically any time that something is out of the ordinary, like if your horse has been doing well placing 1-3rd almost consistently and then suddenly dropping to last place.  Or vice versa, if you have really unsteady results and then suddenly you start to do really well.  I appreciate it's difficult to see this as there should be variation, but unless your horse has changed grade very recently there honestly shouldn't be *that* much variation above ~N5.

For example, if you check the all the show results from that day of the horse listed in the first post of this topic, all horses in them are in pretty much the exact same order for all 10 shows.  I think there was 1 that was slightly different.  That tells me something isn't right.  There should be variation because of luck, especially when the lower levels of training are in play.

If it's something you're not sure about that you'd like admin input on, I'm happy for it to be put into a bug report that I can then look at and say whether something seems to be off, or it's working as intended.  Even if you create a bug report and say "Hey, something seems off with shows, we've discussed it in this topic: ...".

The alternative is that you're posting on the forums and something doesn't get fixed for potentially weeks.  That wouldn't leave a good taste in my mouth as a player, but unfortunately if nobody is bringing up the issues where I will see them (e.g. bug reports or modbox tickets), I sometimes just don't see it.

I just wanted to add that this seems very accusatory towards you guys for not reporting bugs and being the reason that bugs exist for so long.  This is incorrect, I absolutely take responsibility for any bugs in the game and for not picking up on the bigger bugs sooner.  These posts are just me asking for help in finding them and trying to appeal to the idea that if I'm left to my own devices, bugs don't tend to get fixed too quickly because I don't really get the opportunity to play the game myself and don't encounter the bugs.

I want to thank you all for hanging in while there have been bugs, and hopefully I can be better about picking up on bugs in the future ♥

Anyone able to report back today? I still had very few results that are on par with my standard. Not sure if it's just bad luck or not.

I'm back to normal (of course low non-spec performing worse, but that is to be expected). Foundies and foundie level non-spec performing fantastically and even horses with ~30 non-spec doing great.

The problem now of course is that the previous "standard" is going to be incorrect based on how it should have been working.

Currently, higher stat horses should be doing exponentially better in higher grade shows.  High training makes luck less of a factor, so I would expect to see high stat horses at around training level 4-5 doing very well consistently.

Low training level makes luck more of a factor, and can really cause some chaos with results in Novice and possibly Local shows, but that's as you'd expect from novice horses in real life :)

Please do keep me updated on how your horses are faring, and see if this pattern seems to be occurring.
