Why?

#155602 Posted on 2018-02-28 16:43:24

This is one of the things that ticks me off the most and maybe if someone explains it, I won't hate it so much. Almost ever time I look in the RC I see BEAUTIFUL, HIGH STATED, NICE HORSES..... that are gelded!!! WHY? (Sorry if I just made this into a rant) Like these horses are very nice and would do so well with breeding, but people geld them and throw them into the RC. I don't understand why peeps do this. If there is a reasonable answer to this, please let me know, but right now it just makes me mad.

i bred a solid silver stallion and sold him to someone and found him gelded in the RC i was so up set. like he could have produced amazing offspring.

Its because people don't want to spread their lines out and keep them to themselves. Some players like to breed more than they would prefer, so the best way to prevent that from happening is gelding them. I personally don't do it because I like seeing others enjoying the horses I've bred, but many others don't.

I have gelded high statted horses and tossed them in the RC before. I had two different reasons.

1) I accidently bred the wrong horses together, so I gelded the "mistake" and tossed it in the RC. I didn't want that particular horse having offspring.

2) I bred more foals than I'd typically want chasing a certain genetic combination. I gelded the extra stallys so that I brought my genetic producing number of foals down to an acceptable (to me) number.

The reason they go into the RC is that other players might find them useful for competition horses to help push through lower game levels.

like i understand why that people are selfish and all but i sold him for a reason was to spread his lines. his mother stated off with 64 stats and ended up with like 400 to 600 stats. plus she came from the old ev so she was special and having nicw confo too.

it has nothing to do with being selfish.
for a lot of players, having fewer offspring/descendants increases the value of a horse. gelding a horse before putting it in the RC ensures that it isn't bred, and therefore keeps the value of its family members higher.

Storm Warning- I agree with kahzie. The players aren't being selfish. :)

Kahzie- I never really looked at it that way. Thanks for the insight :)

I'm in between both arguments.
Yes Storm, you sold the stallion. Therefore, the new owner is free to do whatever they please with the horse because he is technically no longer under your control. You got paid, and the new owner did what they wanted to their new horse.
However,
I do understand where she is coming from. I am going to be perfectly honest and say that I do not like the "computer code" argument many users like to use to invalidate someone's feelings over their pixel ponies. With all due respect, I think its completely okay for Storm to be upset that her old colt facing possible deletion. To say that you are not the least bit attached to your project doesn't seem realistic. If I worked hard to breed or care for what I believed was an amazing horse, only to find it deleted, I would be upset as well. And I can guarantee that most of the users on his site would agree with me.

I do not believe players are selfish for doing what they did to a horse they bought, but breeders/previous owners are allowed to get a attached and emotional about their pixel ponies because at the end of they day, they put their effort and time into them.

Ditto RemRem. I can see where both sides are coming from here.
