[artwork] first ever design

#136900 Posted on 2017-12-27 15:12:24

so, I ran into the most adorable line-art (can be found here) and just had to create a character. despite the fact that I never do digital art, I decided to try it anyway and now I have this cutie:

ahhhh, I just love it! and now I'm tempted to make more, haha. anyway, what do you all think? I know that I have much to improve and learn, so I'm open to any and all feedback. ♥

I love it! It is quite cute!! ;D
Hmm... I would say I like it the way it is. It is cute and adorable, and I think it could be used as possible tag. The design is great, so are the colours. I wouldn't really change anything about it! And great job on your first time!!!!! :D

thank you, Raptor! ♥ the face marking is also my favorite part of the design. I might transfer this design onto different lines, probably draft, and tweak it a little bit.

in other news, I made another one today, using these lines. I'll probably go back and edit it (I want to try shading), but after about four hours I'm pretty happy with it.

So far my only critique is that you shouldn't use pure white, a really light grey or an off-white would work the best ;D

You made some lovely designs!

Both are very adorable, even if I'm not really a fan of pinks and purples...and generally pastel colors :) I'd love to buy the second one if you ever decide to sell it, tbh :D

thanks for the pointer, Ruby! does that also apply to other markings, such as black? would it be better to do an off- or lighter shade of black, than just pure black? I'll try off-white next time around, though. c:

ah, I'm flattered, Royal Storm! I'm currently attached to the second design, but I'll keep you in mind if I ever decided to sell it.

@ilsa, indeed it does! most people tend to colorpick from the reference so it will help when recoloring a design as well as making the lineart easier to see 8D

I love the balance between natural colors and unnatural colors! I 2nd Royal Storms statement!  I would love to have a chance to buy the second babe if you ever decide to sell it ♥

I as an artist also do what Ruby suggests. I use a light grey or a light pink (both really light). For black I use a dark grey. If you have any questions about anything feel free to message me, I will gladly help!

thank you, Beacon! I'm happy you also like it! I'm a big sucker for natural designs with unnatural accent colors. and thank you for offering help; I'll definitely ask you if I ever need help on something. ♥

I'm going to make another design now, on the same lines; I'm thinking a palomino with a spotted blanket, a somatic marking, and teal/green accents.

feel free to throw suggestions/ideas (color palettes, markings) my way, everyone. I'm willing to try anything really. c: oh, and I really want to try these lines, but don't know what design I want to do on them; I was thinking about transferring my first design onto them, while tweaking a few things on my first design?

side note: does anyone now how people (especially 8siren @ dA) feel about flipping their lines? I'd really like to make the other side of design two, but don't want to accidentally break any rules. I checked 8siren's dA but saw no mention of such a thing.
