7 Sins and Virtues Project -14/14 posted

#130181 Posted on 2017-11-26 23:03:23

So I randomly got the idea that I wanted to try and do some themed designs, and over the last week or so I came to the conclusion that I wanted to use the theme of the 7 Deadly Sins. However I didn't want to do JUST the sins since that felt constricting, so I googled the corresponding 7 Heavenly Virtues to go with them.

Some of these designs I really like, but I feel like a few of them could be better.

The first pair I did was Lust and Chastity, Mainly because I knew exactly what I wanted to do with Lust and felt that I should make sure to keep that in mind when I designed Chastity.

Lust I knew needed to be a fiery chestnut, there was just no decent alternative. I chose to make her a roan near-leopard with lots of chrome for the flash factor that I associate with lust as a sin.

Chastity I felt needed to be softer and more muted in tone than her counterpart. Thus she became an amber cream champagne splash. I'm not entirely convinced by the amount of white but I'm pretty pleased about the decision otherwise.

So far for the project I have:
-Lust: red roan near-leopard
-Chastity: amber cream champagne splash
-Gluttony: coyote dun sabino
-Temperance: mealy bay min. tobiano
-Greed: sooty palomino sabino(thinking of changing to a gold champagne)
-Charity: seal brown tobiano
-Sloth: steel gray tobiano(unnatural flowy tobiano)
-Diligence: red dun overo
-Wrath: blood bay w/ scarring
-Forgiveness: silver smoky grullo tovero (tobiano and sabino)
-Envy: sable champagne varnish roan
-Kindness: rose gray min. splash
-Pride: wild bay splash/sabino
-Humility: flaxen liver chestnut roan/ silver (smoky?)black roan

However I'm definitely open to suggestions on what colors others think might go better with the different sins/virtues. Technically they're all done, but I'm definitely willing to do them over if something sounds better. I'm also willing to show the rest of the completed designs if anyone is interested in seeing them before giving any ideas.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments, I really appreciate it.

Moving on, the next pair.

I chose coyote dun for Gluttony mainly because coyotes are known to have large appetites and for not being too picky about what they eat. The sabino is mostly because I wanted a mark on the belly and I'd already used splash.

I used Mealy bay for Temperance mainly because I like the more neutral feel of it. I chose minimal tobiano because temperance as a virtue is all about moderation(plus I'm a sucker for mane stripes).

those 2 are also real good! makes me wish I could do that but I don't spend money on deluxe and such cause of stuff I have to pay off from my folks in RL. I like seeing the different stuff though, lol. :D

I honestly don't spend any real life money on anything online, everything I earn I earn using in-game means. All my art is done using a free program and a mouse, and all my credits in this game are bought using EVD.

I do all my art using a program called GIMP which is the default art program for Linux, however I'm pretty sure windows users can download it for free from their website. Another free program I've used in the past is Krita, however that one is a little more touchy to learn.

It just takes plenty of practice like any other skill.  I've been doing designs like this for over 4 years now and each one looks better than the last in my opinion.

Next Pair is up now.

Greed is a sooty palomino sabino. I may re-do him because I think maybe a gold champagne(for the gold=money=greed connection) would fit better and I'm not too keen on the belly markings.

Charity is a seal brown tobiano with a heart shaped cat-track. I wanted to use seal brown because I wanted the contrast to Greed, and I like seal brown as a color.
