do horse points matter?

i feel like i've seen points mentioned more frequently lately and was curious as to why. 
do points (for lack of a better word) have a point? 

honestly i don't know but it is tracked in the hall of fame and does add player points so there is that (: 

I've been wondering the same thing, they used to be important..
Now I feel like its only to get on the leaderboards.
But the chances of that for the normal player is slim.

I saw something mentioned a bit ago that there was a goal to make points just as or more important than stats but I don't know if that was true or not or what the conversation even was.

I had brought it up once upon a time but forgot about it lol
They used to be the breeding goal before stats were implemented, now they're rather useless. It would be nice if they gained an actual use again.

I'm using points as an indirect measure of show success in my Club Championships contest. Beyond this, I don't think there's any real use for them.
