Use For Points?

A few players and I were discussing this idea the other day and though it would be nice to hear other thoughts on this.

Horse points currently don't really have any use except for rankings in the Hall of Fame. From my understanding, they're from way back before stats were introduced to EV and were originally the breeding focus.

I was thinking it might be nice to give them a use again, and what I came up with is to possibly have the amount of point effect how well horses do in shows. Basically as if horses were gaining showing experience and performed a bit better each show.
Another thing could be that the more points a horse has slightly increases the amount of stats it's foal gains.

I'm not suggesting this as an idea yet. I just want to hear what others would think about this, or if anyone has other suggestions on a way to make points worth something again.

I think giving points a purpose would be great. Back in the old Ludus Equinus days, you could allocate 1 stat point for every 10k points a horse earned. I'm partial to that idea because it's familiar to me, but I don't dislike your plan either.

I like the idea of getting stat points for every so many points earned. I'm not sure I like the idea of it directly affecting shows though, since there's already a lot that does that. But I'm not picky. Having any use for points would be nice, really. It'd make me feel better about all the shows that never make it to five entries that I get stuck in since you still earn points from those. xD

I actually had a radical overhaul in my head with points. Where Stats can still be earned and affect the results, but points are what move the horse up in level.

So the more a horse shows, the more points it earns (like it is) and therefore the more it shows, the more it progresses up the ranks. And then the place you get earns you more points so the more often you show + the better the horse does, it can then "qualify" for higher ranked shows based on its points.

But its genetic predisposition (birth stats) plus training and experience (earned stats) affect how well it will do.

And points aren't hereditary, so every horse starts off as a beginner (which I believe is realistic) but stats are so it could just BE a really good horse that moves up quickly (also realistic). So, yes, occasionally a 600+ stat horse could be an N1, but they'd rise really quickly so they wouldn't be there for long.


I don't know if I explained it well, and obviously it would make things lsdkafhkldasfhkjh to implement and suddenly have ranks all over the place from where they are, but I feel like it makes it more realistic my way?
