The only problem I have with a Triple Crown event is that, technically, it's for Thoroughbreds only. I'm not opposed to a racing event, but I don't think that it should be called the Triple Crown since it'd most likely be open to all breeds (like everything in EV is so far).

What if it was called something along the lines of "The EV Derby"?

that would be fine, in my opinion :)
no matter what it's called, I would love a special racing event, because it's a sport that I follow c;

Personally I'd prefer to see the State Fair, Luau and Medieval events be entirely separate to any breed-themed or discipline-themed events.

I also like the idea of a Fairytale event. It could be very magical. We could get a unicorn decoration, either as a horn for our horses, or a companion animal like the lovebirds and doves we got in the valentine event.

An annual Equiverse Olympics would be a really fun option for an event with a focus on EV's disciplines. There could be a range of activities associated with each discipline, and maybe special shows. I do think all disciplines should be represented though, so as to be more inclusive, instead of just appealing to some players and not others. We'll ignore the fact that some disciplines don't feature in traditional Olympics. ;)

I also quite like the concept of a Harvest Festival, but only if it's significantly different to the State Fair.

Yeah, when thinking of Harvest festival, I was thinking like fall themed. As Ivory said, hay rides, cornucopias, pumpkins, turkeys, corn maze, etc.

Ok, but let's not try to mimic the American festival too closely. It should be a little more international so as to be more inclusive. There are lots of different harvest festivals from all over the world, so we could take ideas and themes from some of those as well.

A common theme appears to be centred around food, and a feast. Cornucopias appear in many harvest festivals, and others have similar extravagant centrepieces built of food. The Moon is an element in some. We could do something with that. A lot are also on the Autumn Equinox, so that seems like a sensible starting date. Dancing and music is often a major part of such festivals, but I'm not sure how we could incorporate something like that. If we modelled it after the Valentine event we could go around the site collecting/harvesting crop items like wheat, apples, etc in baskets, which can be exchanged for reward items once full? Just thinking aloud...

Loving the idea of an Autumn Equinox, and an EV Olympics type situation.
My only concern (or question?) would be if the different Olympic events would be separated by level of horse, or all squished together?

I'm sure if the events were determined by stats then they would be separated by horse levels, just like shows. But if it was something else, like it being random, perhaps not.

Perhaps we should save the olympics for a year the Olympics are actually hosted. In my mind not every event has to be yearly. That's both a bonus for those that like to keep their items rarer, and there will be a lot more suprises, if you have no clue if a certain event is hosted or it turns out to be another event.
I am now also unsure about copyright of names, of Olympics and the racing events, so I guess a more general name would be safer in that way too. Like Equiverse World Cup and indeed the Equiverse Derby. (even though I personally am not bothered by a Triple Crown with a friesian in it, at least, not more than by a mini used for show jumping. It stays a game after all.)

When I suggested the breed celebrations I had not realized fully that if we did them all there wouldn't be much time for other events. What if we would just group them together completely, as one event? Be a bit inspired by something like the big yearly Breyer show. Instead of plushies we could have a new type of collectible added: model horses. It could go with a conformation competition (I really like conformation, if you had not realized that by now) and it does need a bit more.

And as far as I know harvest celebrations are indeed worldwide. Either to thank the god(s) or for some relief after the insanely hard work you had to do for a couple of day to harvest all the crops. (This celebration could go well with the introduction of the player orchards too, but as I feel this event screams autumn I'm not sure if people would like to wait that long).

Carnaval. We are just a bit too late for that crazy festival, but it could be a fun event for next year too. (Funny costumes, fake mustaches... Or more the feathery extravaganza that seems to be in South America). Just as the Chinese New Year could be a fun future theme.

And, apart from the medieval festival, we could also let ourselves be inspired by other historical events? Horses have been important to mankind for ages. So how about Roman tack, samurai tack, a war horse memorial and the like? We can use tack from different times and different cultures. Not sure about the rest of the things needed for the events yet, and those would be one time only.

I don't think the term 'Olympics' is copyrighted, since it's been around since the 8th century BC. The IOC's logos and such certainly are, but we'd naturally use our own, or none at all, so this wouldn't be an issue. We could always call it 'Equiverse Equestrian Games' or similar if there was any issue with the name. I do feel it should be an annual event though. People shouldn't have to miss out entirely just to keep items rare. That can just as easily be achieved by having their price high.

I like the idea of Carnaval, and historical-inspired events. There definitely needs to be an ancient Egypt themed one somewhere. Chinese New Year would be fun too, although just a small point - it's an Asian celebration, not just Chinese, so calling it Lunar New Year (its proper name) would be more appropriate and non-controversial.

I meant indeed that if 'copying' the Olympics it would make sense to do so during the actual Olympics. A World Cup or a equestrian Games version could indeed be yearly. Just like the EV Fair. But I don't need a 1001 Arabian nights every year, for example.

Thank you, I had not heard of that term of lunar new year, but it makes indeed more sense. (All rip-off celebrations in my country are simply called the Chinese new year)

Ancient Egypt would be gorgeous too! And I was thinking, with the Fairytales/folklore there is also a lot of different possibilities. My first thought is the Germanic like ones, but I guess that's mainly due to my location. But it is possible to pick a very specific fairytale and start brainstorming about that one.

And we could use things as dress-red day, earthday and other sort of international days. I am sure there is a list or two somewhere.

I fear we can come up with way more ideas than we would want on yearly base

An Equestrian Games event would be pretty flexible in terms of when it was held, so it could happen at the same time as the Olympics when they're on, and then at an arbitrary time during the year when they're not.

Just to try to get an idea of how the calendar might look, I've summarised the list of events we've got so far, both the confirmed and suggested ones. (We won't necessarily have all these, of course.) If I'm missing any let me know, or post your own update.

August:
September: Harvest (autumn equinox),
October: Halloween
November:
December: Snowball fight, Christmas, winter solstice event

- water fight
- beach party or Seaside Festival or Equiverse Regatta

An idea for a Christmas themed event: gift giving. You'd find wrapped presents around the site and could gift them to other players (not the item transfer, something more like throwing snowballs). The player who receives them would open them to get a random surprise, which could be things like a few horse treats, or a bit of EVD, or very occasionally very nice/rare items, like 1 EVC, or perhaps special events, similar to what you get from the fountain. It could also include booby prizes which are just a nice message with no accompanying item.

We could also maybe have something like the Valentines hearts thing, where we could leave publicly-visible Christmas ornaments or cards on player pages, which just have a very brief message that are either preselected from a drop-down list, or something custom.
