applying for jobs. It's seriously the most discouraging thing ever. I just applied for a Paraprofessional (teacher aid) job that I am definitely qualified for- but we all know that doesn't mean a thing.

I went ahead and called Human Resources following the submission of my application to let them know that I applied and am very interested. I asked them a few additional questions about the position as well.

It seems like every time I think I stand a chance, I get the dreaded, "Thank you for your interest in the position BUT..." email.

I have over 20 applications out right now, and this particular position is one I've been waiting for to open for months now, which makes me even more nervous!

Now... I wait. Which I HATE doing. >.<

D: Awwww!!! I know the feeling and I'll have to deal with it again after I graduate from my University this May. But, hopefully I'll do better since I've been trained to work with children. :)

FG, I'm finishing up my Undergraduate in Elementary Education and have the necessary qualifications+ some for this job. It'd be huge as it would give me additional experience so when I do graduate and start applying for a full-time teacher's position, I wont look so inexperienced.

I can feel you on this one >.< I was looking for my first job ever, put in applications everywhere. Only got the job because I know someone who works there and she badgered the boss to find a spot for me. (Which when I was hired, I found out they were in desperate need of someone but no one was getting hired or even looked at?)

There is an un-named (For respectful reasons) big store that I applied to, as they really needed someone to work Friday, Saturday, Sunday. In which I could work ALL three of them at any time. "I'm sorry, but we need someone with more days open" It's actually horrible applying for jobs ;P

Ugh...yeah, I am working on building my educational resume really well with work study and things like that so I won't have a serious unemployment problem when I graduate...from the university, that is. I actually have two Associate's degrees already from the community college, with a third coming up in the spring, LOL!

Not that Associate's degrees are much help with getting a job...although my Associate in Science might get me a position in a lab somewhere if I can find one of those openings... :P

Good luck with your application (and search in general!)

I've just applied for a job that I am 100% perfect for, so I totally know what you mean. It's just the waiting game now.

I'm really hoping that already having an "in" in the form of knowing people there will help, but there's always that doubt and discouragement.

my mom has been out of work for nine years now and she applies to about 2,000 jobs each year. you do the math.
she has two degrees: sales and nuclear medicine, with extensive experience in both fields. top employee in both jobs.
however, no one will hire her. she applies for fast food and grocery stores and she's over qualified. she applies for nuclear medicine jobs and she's just the perfect person but they've won't hire her because they ASSUME someone of her age doesn't want to be a hard worker. my mom is the hardest working person i know.

i go with her to job interviews and i help her prepare and get ready.
for me, it's personally discouraging because i'm seeing that you can have everything and still get nowhere. and i'm about to apply for colleges in the next year and a half.

with all that said, i wish you the very best luck in your search. i know how hard it can be.

The "thank you for your interest" email or no reply at all is the story of my life. I really don't know how it's ever going to work out. I've been applying to jobs for three years at various levels and in differing fields. And still nothing.

It's horrible and stressful. But you have to keep trying anyway . . . if you don't try and go for things, the answer will always be no, so you have to keep going. Try not to let it crush you - I know it's hard, I've been there/still am there, and I absolutely know what this is like.

You have to keep going regardless of how crappy it feels or how many rejections you get, and don't let that temptation to crumble get to you. That kind of mentality saps energy from you and it's just sort of a pain in the posterior, and as overwhelming as it can feel you need to mentally punch it in the face and keep going anyway. As this book I've been reading to help has said, every time you hear no from a job you're getting closer to your yes.

I know those feels also :(

Hang in there, you'll find one! Honestly finding my first job straight out of uni was the most depressing time of my life... and I've had cancer lol. Very little can compare to that feeling of putting all your effort into trying for something only to receive rejection after rejection.
I hated the stigma attached to it as well, like if you couldn't find a job and had to live on youth payments you were a lazy good-for-nothing. It killed my soul a bit :(

I hate applying for jobs x_x I applied to well over 200 before and after graduating and ended up with one, single offer. And that was with an engineering degree, research experience and a good gpa.

It's the ultimate soul crushing experience.

I'm going through this process too. I've been applying for jobs for about 6 months now, the last two much more seriously and cannot get seem to get hired. I have my bachelor's degree in Biology with an EEO emphasis; my biggest hindrance right now is lack of experience but since I can't get a job I can't remedy that problem. I've had 1 serious interview and hundreds of "Thank for your interest" emails.

Now my payments for my student loans are due (I don't have many loans but still) and I'm thinking that I may just have to start applying for customer service type jobs because I'm in desperate need of money at this point.

I'm seriously frustrated with the whole situation right now though.

It's rough. I hate it. I had a job lined up but it fell through. And when I first moved to South Carolina, I got a job but they laid us off right before Christmas.

Everyone keeps telling me when the right job comes along, I'll get it. But frankly? I get so tired of hearing that!

>.<

Fingers crossed to all us adulting and trying to make ends meet!

I spent almost 2 years applying for Accounting positions after getting my Bachelors Degree. "You've got great experience but not RECENT experience." How about giving me some then? I finally got a job through a temp agency that is supposed to work into full time permanent but getting through the part-time hours over the holidays has been rough.

Yeah, the dreaded "thank you but..." email. UGH. I got tons of those. The hardest one was after they called me back for a second, longer interview. Talk about crushed. Keep your chin up.

Well I applied for 5 jobs in particular that would be perfect for me (paraeducator aka teachers aid) and with today being the first day of classes back since the holidays, I made the big step of calling all the schools and districts of every job I applied for. No answer. I left voice mails for everyone.

This process really just beats you down. :(

I've always hated applying for jobs, but the job market where I live is good, so I've always got them. resumes are the worst. I don't like talking myself up (I tend to talk myself down more. I was raised to be modest. My parents never let me say I was good at anything without making me say someone else was better, and entering the job world that really hurt.) I can't imagine how hard it would be in an area where the demand for workers wasn't there.
