I've always wanted to pop in here... aha I'm super late as always.

Anywhoooo, basic things about me/my goals

Stats-
4'11
98 lbs
18.8 BMI

Goals-
Gain muscles (core muscles primarily) to benefit me mainly in the show ring
No weight loss
Drink. More. Fluids.
Stop with all the sugar
Balance my diet more

So yea, I just want to be more athletic and just be able to really zone in on my core muscles to improve my riding and just to be healthier. As for the sugar part, it's gotta go. Makes me moody and upsets my stomach and I just consume wayyy to much of it woops.
I probably sound stupid, I've never been an athletic person in my life so I may say stupid things, sorry in advance.

I cannot help with the fish tank due to the fact that my electrolyte count is fairly low and I primarily drink Powerade/Gatorade as a result of that, but I'll cheer y'all on from the sidelines. Drinking loads of pure water puts me into a not so good place, unfortunately, so I try to avoid it.

So yea that's all about me that really matters~~

Patteeerrrsss, you should try yoga to help with your core - I've been doing it for a while and it has made a difference not just to my core, but I have noticeably more upper arm and thigh strength as well, and I also noticed my balance improved and I don't have those clumsy moments often anymore. It's just a really nice thing and it's a good stress-reliever too. I think I also read something in a horse magazine about how they recommend yoga for riders because of the overall increase in strength.

I hayven't posted here yet, but I actually made a last night about looking for a fitness buddy. I didn't know this was a thing :o

I guess it's time for my story, then. I've been overweight since birth. Literally, I was born a chubby baby and never lost it. All throughout school, I gained 20 pounds a year when I was young, like clockwork. My parents raised me on fast food so that probably had a lot to do with it. By the time I was in fifth grade (so about 11 years old) I weighed 175 pounds. When I got to my junior year of high school, I weighed about 230. Now I'm weighing in at about 290, and I really want to get the weight off. I don't look like I weigh that much apparently (people always guess between 185 and 230), but the fact that I do worries me. I do have a lot of muscle, but a lot of it isn't muscle. Because I grew up eating nothing but fast food and sitting on my butt for my entire childhood, I'm clueless when it comes to fitness. I don't know what I can eat that is healthy and will keep me full for a longer period of time so I'm not constantly wanting to snack, I don't know how many reps to do for arm and core workouts (which is what I want to focus on), and I tend to get discouraged and give up.

Currently::
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 290

Goals::
Short-term: 230 (back to the weight I was when I met my now-fiance)
Long-term: 200 (if I break the 200 mark, I will cry, I'm serious)
Ultimate: 160

Just checking in, I did yoga yesterday (the 'ocean' practice in the app I use, which is more rigorous) and I am definitely still feeling it today. I'm tired but in a good way. c:

I don't know tons about weight loss, and I don't pretend to, but I do know of a couple things you can do to keep your appetite more controllable . . . drinking water regularly (I have read things that suggest drinking a cold glass of water before eating because your body needs more energy to metabolize water that is cold), eating small snacks that are high in protein (such as nuts), eating foods that give energy for longer (such as having oatmeal for breakfast), and generally avoiding foods that are high in salt or sugar.

If you eat salty things it tends to make you crave sugar and vice versa, so if you can squeeze those out of your diet and opt for things like fruits and nuts for snacks in a pinch you may be better off.

I used to have this piece of paper with some info about reps/sets/waiting times for lifting weights to target endurance, muscle gain, etc but I lost it a long time ago and can't recall exactly what it said. I think for muscle though you do 5-8 reps with 1-3 sets, waiting something like a minute and a half to two minutes in between sets. The weight you use should be high enough that by that last rep you are struggling to complete it. I can't recall much more than that but maybe it'll be helpful.

I lost this post, but it miraculously reappeared.

A little bit about me.

Currently I am 25, a Navy Reservist and going to school for nursing.

I have played soccer for 14 years, from the age of 4-18... I went through it all, camps, middle school, high school, traveling teams... My Junior year of high school I joined the lacrosse team and fell in love with the sport immediately. I even had a half scholarship to a university in Indiana to play lacrosse, but my mom had me turn it down. In spite of her I wound up not playing soccer at my county college. I actually lost weight not playing any sports for the first few years. I went from a robust 160 to a more manageable 145. After getting my AS and moving to a 4 year school I decided that I was bored and wanted to do something exciting. This lead to me joining the Navy... The best experience of my life! In boot camp I got down to a very muscular 125, I had abs!! Then.... I went to school for my job... I sat around on a pc A LOT... everyday... get up, go to school, sit on the pc, go home, go to sleep..... I lost my abs and gained 10 pounds... All that hard work had been erased in 4 months... And to top it all off I have a hard time getting myself to do anything that involves exercise, it is not because I don't want to do it, I just don't want to hurt after (and not the good hurt, the bad bone hurting x.x).

I have struggled with my weight since high school, I went from a little scraggly kid that played sports to a 5'1, 160 pound solid cylinder (lol I have realized that my old picture of me at this weight look like I am a soda can xD) that bulldozed people on the field. I think I gained the weight because I was not allowed to hang out with my friends as a child. I was bullied a lot in high school and my mom thought it best if I was locked away in the tower so no one could pick on me. This lead me to make a friend out of my gaming system... and any food that I could take up in my room and eat on my bed without making a mess (yeah, gross.... And I was a hermit ._.)

On top of that I have had multiple bone injuries from sports. I have broken my right wrist, my left forearm, micro-fractured both of my knee caps and the tops of my tibias, as well as my nose multiple times (probably about 4).... I am a walking weather forecaster... The bones that I have injured (except for my nose) can detect changes in atmospheric pressure, and it hurts... To put the cherry on the cake, when my mom was in labor with me, I was breach (butt first) and she had a C-section. My hips were dislocated and I had to wear a brace for the first couple months of my life. I contribute my constant hip pain/popping to this, but it could be from the contact sports as well. All that said... my body hurts on a regular basis. I cannot run for long periods of time without having a stabbing sensation in my knees after. I have problems just walking... sometimes one of my knees will decide that it no longer wants to work and gives out under my weight. I have never fallen, but it feels really weird.... (all this was "fun" to work with through boot camp, but I did it, pain and all)

I have taken to an elliptical though for cardio, I love how it feels like running without the pressure on my knees, although I get really bad jelly legs.

Currently:
Height 5'1
Weight 135

Goal:
Short-term: get back into a routine not spontaneous work outs/130
Long-term: Get my darn abs back/125 or less, muscular

Hi all! This is my first post in the group soooo a little about me and my goals! I'm Ducky, and I've recently gotten back into fitness after about a 5 or 6 year hiatus. Once upon a time I was "naturally fit," meaning I didn't know what I was doing and wasn't keeping track of anything because I worked a physical job on my feet, did heavy lifting, and had a habit of climbing rock faces...no gyms at all. After college my job changed as I entered a "career" and went from an active lifestyle to one where I spent 8-12 hours a day sitting on my duff going clickity click on a computer in the name of earning a paycheck. Gained some weight, lost some weight, liked my body shape throughout....

...and then one fateful day after I got rid of my car, I struggled to carry a large pail of kitty litter from the grocery store one block to my apartment. Convinced the panting and the soreness was a fluke, I tried doing a basic push-up and instead got a kitty hair tumbleweed in my nose. I started watching my Macros, became pregnant (surprise!), had a baby and now 4 months later I've started weight lifting. Currently doing a combo of Starting Strength AND bodyweight exercises incorporating Baby Ducky (who is a hefty 18lbs as I type this). Currently on week 13, have lost 35lbs, and am officially back to my pre-pregnancy measurements and 10lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight.

My goal is to be able to squat and bench more than what I weigh, increase flexibility in my hips (thank you yoga, curse you desk jobs), and to stay healthy so running after Baby Ducky will be fun instead of torture. I would also be super happy to compete in a Spartan race or arm wrestle Rhonda Roussey.

If anyone needs help coming up with food and/or recipes to help them meet their goals, let me know! I'm quite good at food, and have spent years as a vegan, vegetarian, and consumer of all the meats!

Hey guys! We've been slacking on keeping this thing going. I'm partially to blame as I took a month hiatus and then came back with even more going on in my life.

How is everyone doing with keeping up with their fitness and healthy eating?! Are you seeing any results?

This past week has been a slow one for me as far as times I've been to the gym. I typically average 4-5 days a week at the gym but I've only gone once this week (about to go again here in a minute).
