Petrie (Puppy) Last Update :(

Petrie was named after the Land Before Time's Petrie. He is 5.8 oz (although we will reweigh him because he ate not to long before) as of 3/7. He is 4 days old (born 3/3/17). Me and my mom are raising him (till he is about 6 weeks old, then he will go to a foster home). His mother refused to feed him because he was the runt of the litter. We got him last night and was expected to not live through the night but here he is! We are bottle feeding him. Me and my mom raised kittens before this but we are kind of new at puppies but we got it down pretty well. He is a toy collie/greyhound mix. I will be updating daily with his new weight.

First and Only Update - 3/7 7:17 pm (EV time)
Petrie was rushed to the vet at about 7 pm (EV time). He start to have shallow breathing. He has passed away due to a probable infection (vets aren't really sure). They believe this is a possible reason his mom rejected him. It breaks my heart. My mom is crushed because she believes it was partly her fault because she was raising him the most. :( He will always be in my heart even if I had him for a day.

I'm sorry to hear about your puppy losing young ones always is very sad.

Fostering pups & kittens is an amazing thing to do.
Unfortunately it also means you'll have your heart broken every time a little one doesn't make it.
From my experience as a foster mom I know that mom knows best and rejected kittens often don't make it. They have the amazing ability to sense when there is something wrong with their little one long before we even have a clue.

You made sure this little guy was loved and comfortable during his short life, and that's a beautiful gift to give him. Your mom shouldn't feel guilty, I doubt there was anything she could have done. I lost 5 kittens in two weeks and I know it's devastating, but we need to accept that it is just the way of nature. Not every single one makes it no matter how hard we try to help them.
