#96009 Posted on 2017-03-02 15:02:45 Hello everyone! It's now March, and I'm your president again. This month will hopefully be marginally more productive, because changes are afoot. Most of you have probably seen the thread in the Suggestions and Ideas forum related to clubs and groups. It's very possible that in the semi-near future, the club system will be revamped and the Chincoteague Club will cease to exist. With that in mind, there are a few things I'd like to discuss with all of you members regarding the future of the club and what will come after. Topic One: Mascot First of all, we are in need of a new mascot. If you'd like to submit a horse, reply here and in a few days I'll use a randomizer to choose. There are no rules to what horse you can submit. Topic Two: Emptying Our Bank So back to the club future. Abbey has already said she would give at least a month's notice before closing down the current clubs if she does that (it seems likely it will happen). We can use that time to find a way to spend the club's current funds, but I thought we could get started now on brainstorming ideas so that when the announcement finally comes, we'll have laid out some of the groundwork. The club currently has about $500,000 in it's bank. A contest seems like a good solution in theory, but given the current activity of clubs, I'm afraid a contest would still not gain enough interest. But if I'm wrong and you have a great idea for a contest, please feel free to share. If we don't do a contest, what are some other options? Raffle? Refund for horses that are currently registered? Something else? Topic Three: Future Groups In addition to the money situation, another thing I'd like to discuss here is future group possibilities. If Abbey shuts down current clubs and leaves it to members to run their own groups/registries/etc., who plans to create their own groups, or would like to help admin one? I can say right now that I'd be interested in creating a Chincoteague group, and would be interested in possible future fellow admins. Does anyone else know if they'd be interested in creating or helping to manage a group? To tie this into the previous topic, I think it might be a good use of money to donate to future groups, if there is some possible overlap where that can be a thing before the current clubs are cut out. #96029 Posted on 2017-03-02 16:23:14 RR Dusty Lady for the mascot competition :) I'm in love with her coat. Honestly, I like the idea of a raffle, but if people want a refund, that's understandable. As for groups, I would really like for there to be a strictly Chincoteague club honestly. It would be something I can focus on with my Chinco project. 0 members like this post.
