show Jumping & Dressage Breeds

#89790 Posted on 2017-01-29 10:26:45

I'm looking for a show jumping and a dressage breed to add to my menagerie.

I'm considering Show Jumping DWBs, but would like to know which other breeds are used to Show Jumping.

And honestly have no idea which breeds are used for Dressage so feel free to let me know.

breeds I won't consider:
QH
Clydes
Minis
Shetlands
Mustangs
GVs
Arabians

Morgan

Trakehner
Welsh Pony

Dressage
Akhal-Teke
Andalusian
Dutch Warmblood
Friesian
Lipizzaner
Thoroughbred
Trakehner
Welsh Pony

In real world upper level show jumping and dressage you'll see mostly warmbloods in both, of course Welsh crosses do amazing in pony divisions. Arabs and TBs are really starting to gain ground in mid level. Andalusians and Friesians can do dressage well, Andys even make Olympic level dressage on occasion. But yes, Dutch Warmblood and Trakehner would be the most likely breeds to actually see in international competition in those sports. Thoroughbred is probably most common to see in local level for either sport.

I have show jumping appies, and there's a medium sized group that breed them on Eq. They aren't as populra as western bred, but not completely obscure.

And personally I'm doing andies for dressage. Not a huge color base for them, but I like them in the cream dilutes.

Thoroughbreds do well in Jumping and Dressage in RL.

They are not very popular in the game, although it adds some challenge. Plus the color array they come in is pretty fun as well.

I think the second most popular discipline for TBs is show jumping, plus they're a pretty decent breed. They don't have that many colors, but they have enough to not be boring (at least for me).

I think Show Jumping is pretty popular in Chincoteagues, I have a couple and I've seen several other people with them as well.

I have a couple Chincos trained in dressage just because that's what their stats were leaning towards when I got them. But they've done fairly well.

As for the other breeds, I think ilsa pretty much covered it. Also DWBs could do either dressage or show jumping, I think?

edit to add: Paint horses are also good for sj!
