Rare Colors

#89742 Posted on 2017-01-29 08:27:30

I am not so good with genetics and could use and would appreciate a little help identifying rare colors for Gypsy. Mustang, and Paint. Only some of my horses have had their genetics tests done And I think at least one or two might be rare.

things that are not rare: bays, chestnuts, grays, possibly even blacks
things that are rare: I don't know much about those breeds, but duns, browns, creams, and champagnes are usually at least uncommon

I know what is rare for one breed isn't necessarily rare for another if someone could list the genes that would be rare for the horses I have it would help me know what to look for once I have had the genetics test done on all my horses. If you could also add what color the gene is associated with that too will help

You can use the horse search option to find out what colors are common (or uncommon!) in any breed.

You will need to select the horse breed, and then go through each of the options for color given. Not all breeds come in all colors, so don't assume that just because you get no results for a color that it's rare - it might just not exist! Don't forget to include locked horses in your search.

Anyone that provides you a list of colors and rarities would be doing exactly this process, but if you do it yourself you'll get a better idea of how to do it again in the future, since rarity of colors fluctuates with time.

If you have any questions or are struggling, feel free to PM me and i'll try to help :)

Generally in paints, the rarity level goes flaxen - brown - champagne - silver - rabican - cream - dun - splash - sabino/tobiano

Color/Modifier: Flaxen (ff) - Brown (At) - Champagne (Ch) - Silver (Z)- Cream/Dun (Cr/D) - Black/Bay/Chestnut - Grey (G)

Marking: Rabicano (Rb) - Roan/Splash(Rn/Sp) - White/Sabino/Tobiano (W/Sb/T)

White used to be rare, but with the new update it's actually really common from the EC. Flaxen used to be only available in custom horses, but is now available through the EC rarely (I actually got a ff paint last night). Personally, I consider all colors and markings other than GG and TT to be even more rare if you get them as homozygous (ff/RnRn/ZZ/CrCr, etc). These lists I complied through my own creation through the EC, and I'm almost tempted to say that Brown and Flaxen are on the same level of rarity, as its hard to get either through the EC.

In addition, I use the horse search to test my horses without uncovering their genotypes. It takes longer, but saves money in the end (plus I make 50+ horses at one time). Simply set the breed, the player number to your own, age younger than one (if you're making EC horses at 0 years old), and simply choose each gene you want to check for individually. So check for just Ff, then just ff, then just Zz, then Ata, AAt, AtAt, etc. This will let you see the true color even if the horse is Grey or under White.
