Is it worth it?

#89336 Posted on 2017-01-27 08:36:01

I transferred my Quarter Horses from my spare account to this one, I think Im probably going to settle back in by working on my QH lines.

Now....right at this moment they are show jumping. I was considering converting their training to western. I only have 17 horses atm, so it's not a huge deal financially for me to convert them. So bearing that in mind....are show jumper QHs popular enough to continue on training them in such or would it be more viable to switch them all to western in the long run?

Personally I'd go with western. You'll most likely have trouble down the line if you decided to sell any foals. Plus Western Qhs could do with some pedigree boosts if they are short gens ;3. At the end of the day it's up to you though.

Maple, all my current stock is store bought ^_^

But I am heavily considering the switch. I am more than happy to do it. I just wanted to know how much more beneficial it'd be to go western, based on your post, it sounds like it'd be beneficial.

Western seems to be the most popular discipline for the breed. I personally like to train mine in endurance.

I find that anything that isn't Western takes much longer to sell. I'd definitely suggest making the switch, especially since western qhs always need a boost to their pedigree.

There are 12 pages of showjumping (including those trained to be converted. I start all of my foals in showjumping or dressage to convert to western), compared to the 107 pages of western. There is definitely way more western breeders.
